Nice try...

To derail the discussion into ridiculous spheres. It’s absolutely not difficult to determine in a few words what handmade means IF you are following common sense and not trying to ridicule the issue.

Simple ask yourself: Is the person involved in every step of the creation of the watches parts without using automated machines that give any part it’s shape, finish or function? If you can answer this with yes, then it’s handmade. Simple as that. The extend of handmade can then of course vary - same as with hand finished. There are people that go to extreme length to push it further and further but it’s still Hand finished, same as someone how only files and then pressure polishes.

If you use an electric powered lathe, you guide the machine. If you use a “foot powered” lathe, you guide the machine. Why should one disqualify the other? It’s only a personal interpretation of how far someone will go within the same field (hand made).

And regarding the booklet, box or strap: Sure, someone can have those done by hand as well. But the label is put on the watch not the accessories.

For the rubies or sapphires: If it’s disclosed what is bought, where is the problem. Again, it’s about transparency. I’m sure you’re going to reply “But where’s the limit for bought parts then?” - Again common sense would be the solution. Which does not mean that someone could not again go the extra mile and do these parts as well. Without disqualifying the ones that don’t.
