My take on this piece
Jun 03, 2020,12:32 PM
First impressions: beautiful, nice round form, good proportions, interesting lume, darked-out brand (this makes it more stealthy and reduces distraction towards the brand name).
After reading about it (sorry, an acquired habit for an educated person is to research before answering):
Size - it will fit most wrists at 41mm
Mechanism- a 72h power reserve with a double direct impulse system, uses a micro-rotor
Thickness - 11.1mm thick (this is quite thin compared to it's width)
Purpose - casual days, holidays etc. I would not wear it for sports or even for a bath, with it's water resistance of 30m
Price - north of USD$36,000
Who will like it: people like me perhaps appreciating stealth and workmanship. This watch will get praise from people even when they do not know the brand. Someone who drives a restored classic car and is intellectual and worldly.
Evoked Set: FP Journe Chronometre Bleu (+ US$10-20k above, used pieces), Panerai Luminor Due (much more affordable and similar form, but it is mass market), Petermann Bedat deadbeat seconds (double the price, another sporty classic watch), some pieces from H Moser (Pioneer central secounds=1/3 of this price), Sarpaneva Korona Series (slightly lower price point on used market, unstable prices), Breguet Marine (older versions, but not ACHI), Gronefield (for example, the Principia 1941, it is about 1.5 x costlier)
If I had this budget, this would be high on my list, along with the Gronefield Principia 1941 and Sarpaneva Korona Series. If I had a higher budget, I'd pick the FP Journe CB (prices are volatile for this, $55-100K used).
It isn't what I would call King of Cool, which evokes a flamboyant image. Rather, it is secretly an heir to an empire, with worldly sensibilities and is good looking.
Cheers!
