Geneva Watch Days - quick photo report

Sep 02, 2024,20:08 PM

I spent the weekend in Geneva - my first visit of the city and my first time at GWD. I enjoyed it tremendously. I saw a couple impressive watches, met great people and loved the conversations about watches and the industry in general. So I went from Laurent Ferrier to Fleming to Moser to Simon Brette. Simon was so kind to spend an hour chatting to me about his brand, upcoming releases and the difficulty of allocating his very limited pieces to the right collectors. Great experience all around. So here goes in no particular order and apologies for the mediocre iphone quality. The grey palladium Moser Perpetual in one of the pics is my watch I picked for the weekend.

Speaking of noting, is that yellow/purple Moser called the Passion Fruit?

We happened to pick a bunch of passion fruit off the vine next door! ...

Thanks, you can find more photo here

The aroma and flavor are amazing! ...

I liked the Fleming watches more than I expected, but the one thing I thought could have been improved was the short, stubby lugs.

The watches sit great on the wrist and the tantalum piece has one of the most beautiful dials. All spoken for by now. After the lukewarm reception the brand got here, I was impressed with the product in the flesh.

Wonderful analysis. I appreciate your perspective.

More often than not, lugs are too long. Watches that hide their wrist size have mastered the lug length (e.g. Seiko Tuna and Turtle). Thank you for your post and fantastic photos!

I really liked the Simon Brette and the experience chatting with the man himself. The Laurent Ferrier is excellent from case to dial to date window execution, but priced a little ambitiously.

None of the Mosers spoke to me, and I feel they risk becoming style over substance. I do like my old Perpetual though! The Flemings were really well made pieces. Movement does not seem to be at the level of Brette or Gauthier but still very very solid.

I totally concur. Totally.

Great report, I thought the Fleming deserved a slightly better reception as well.

Did you try on Josh Shapiro's watches? I understand he shared space with Fleming.

Next year for sure!

I like that you had a good time and already have in mind to visit again.
