it's such a joy watching the deadbeat seconds mechanism and yet it's kind of sad as it demonstrates, at least to me, futile attempts to hold back the passage of time...

I've long admired the DSTB and have tried one on on several occasions. I agree, the deadbeat mechanism mesmerizing--I could get lost in it.
