Zenith & PuristSPro.com celebrate the watch community’s 15th Anniversary with the exclusive Cronometro Tipo CP-2 for PuristSPro - Special Edition of 50 pieces

Mar 10, 2017,06:00 AM

The world’s most influential community of passionate watch aficionados, PuristSPro.com , celebrates its 15th anniversary. On this occasion, PuristSPro partnered with one of the most respected fully integrated Swiss watch manufactures, Zenith, to mark this anniversary with a custom-made timepiece: The Cronometro Tipo CP-2 for PuristSPro !

Based upon Zenith’s recently presented homage to one of the most sought after military pieces, the Cronometro Tipo CP 2, a military chronograph created in the mid-1960s on special order of the Italian Army, the Cronometro Tipo CP-2 for PuristSPro is laden with chronometric delicacies and aesthetic refinements worth carrying a PuristSPro designation:

The purity of the design and the technical excellence secure the Cronometro Tipo CP-2 its popularity amongst watch aficionados: Optically true to the original, the difference is mainly a nod to another Zenith legend, the famous El Primero automatic chronograph movement. Renowned for its excellent reliability and its timekeeping precision, it was considered a worthy successor to the original’s manually wound Cal. 146 DP.

Like the latter, it features a classical column wheel controlled chronograph, but adds to this an efficient automatic winding and a precise fast-beat escapement with 36,000 VPH. Everything else, the 43mm stainless steel case, the bezel, the black dial with permanent seconds dial and minute counter, the arrow-shaped seconds hand are exact reproductions of the legendary original.

No wonder the Cronometro Tipo CP-2 became an instant favourite when both Zenith and PuristSPro teams brainstormed about the collaborative watch. Recognising that being Purists at heart (aptly summarised with the PuristSPro slogan ‘passion, opinion, information’) demands nothing less that excellence, a holistic vision for customisation was developed:

The El Primero calibre 4069 (the two-register variant of the original El Primero; featuring 254 individual components including 35 jewels) was turbo-charged with Zenith’s proven silicon escapement assembly.

An official certificate, individual to each single movement, attests its superior performance according to the standards of the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC). The movement has a unique monochrome rhodinised finish (which includes all wheels and gears) and serves as a visible allusion to the movement’s uniqueness. The movement can be admired through a display back:

Having the performance of the movement certified by the official COSC, it was now more than fitting to replace the ‘Automatic’ inscription of the dial with the Italian word ‘Cronometro’, exactly like the historical archetype. On the back of the watch, a dedicated engraving on the bezel reads PuristSPro - 1 of 50' , referring to the strict limitation:

Finally, you'll find the words ‘Passion, Opinion, Information’ on the rotor, the core values uniting PuristS worldwide.

Two unique straps, a green NATO textile and an olive Nubuk leather strap, together with both a deployant and a pin style buckle, complete the package.

Only 50 limited pieces are available exclusively at PuristSPro.com .

I came so close to buying the regular watch when Zenith announced it last year. I would not be utterly disappointed had I done so, but CRONOMETRO and the significant movement differences and strap / buckle sets are highly desirable. Awesome job Magnus and...

What a cool piece. Magnus and the PP team are to be commended for their efforts in bringing this limited edition to life. It exceeds expectations, and that's not easy with all of the teasers. The wait was worth it. A sincere thank you. M4

Congratulations, Magnus!

And to all the PuristS involved in this project. You've done a very fine job. The movement is just spectacular.

 By: Questlove : March 10th, 2017-06:23

Congrats for the wonderful execution

 By: agyzace : March 10th, 2017-06:33

 By: NT931 : March 10th, 2017-06:35
Impressive piece of work indeed, which could only have come through many hours of careful thought, discussion and creation. Love the inscription on the rotor!

Am I the only one who finds the movement looks amazing?

 By: cazalea : March 10th, 2017-06:36
I'm not sure if it's the plating, or the depth of the case coming up around the internals but the total effect is striking. And so gleaming shiny! (Is there a reversible strap so we can wear it movement-side-up?) Cazalea

Where is the CLICK TO ORDER button?

 By: cazalea : March 10th, 2017-06:38
I don't see it anywhere....

I kinda likeee

 By: MTF : March 10th, 2017-06:40
I've never had an El Primero movement INSIDE a Zenith watch before. Sure, I've owned other watches with the El Primero movement inside because Zenith used to sell their movements to other brands to survive. Also Zenith watches without the El Primero movem...

Just say: WOW ...

 By: Marcus Hanke : March 10th, 2017-06:49
... this makes the great Cairelli-reedition a perfect one. A certified chronometer AND a wonderful technical addendum due to its silicium escapement. A unique finishing of the movement and a displayback where the first reedition didn't have one is another...

Wonderful! I love it!

 By: stromer : March 10th, 2017-06:58
What a worthy symbol of our community! Thank you so much to Magnus and the rest of the team for bringing their vision to life and for presenting to us such a refined and true watch! very, very well done! Best, Martin

Oh yes, check out that 45 on the bezel... Droolworthy by all means :-)

 By: Thevenin : March 11th, 2017-11:49

indeed, this was what made it most special for me

 By: alphabeta81 : March 10th, 2017-13:01
Not just a dial change, but also changing the look of the movement, putting on a see through back, changing the rotor, getting COSC, and more. And Zenith delivered, so we must give thanks to them as well as the whole PPro team!

What can I say? Amazing job to the whole team.

 By: zabreg1 Mr White : March 10th, 2017-11:19

Congratulation to those who ordered, but isn't a bit unfair to other members in other timezone such as Australia or Asia? The watch has gone so quickly. While I clicked to the bottom of the threads, I read something about 'waiting list' and 'sold in 6 hou...

Well then... Impossible to account for any occasion... but we had alerts...

 By: Ornatus-Mundi : March 10th, 2017-13:16
and teasers for weeks up now. So the chance was there for everybody to inquire and reserve in time, and to request further information. Best (and I encourage you to register for the waiting list), Magnus
