Yes, indeed, it is the right way,
I made the same: first I built a collection of 20 watches but mainly with low-budget watches ( around 2.000 Euro on average ) then I started to reduce my collection with more valuable watches. I realized than that I do not have enough watches, I started to build up again a collection with a little more valuable watches ( 3.500 Euro on average ) and what happened? The same old story: when I reached the 20-25 pieces, started the same procedure again, as a circulus vitiosus.
Now I have almost 40 watches, all of them are very valuable, at least from a horological point of view, but it is really too much now, so I am downsizing my collection, again... I think the ideal number is around 25 but it depends on your personality. I don't feel myself comfortable if I have less than 15 watches...

I can name a few he had
1) JLC reverso platinum 2) Laco Pilot sterile dial 3) Grand Seiko Chronograph 4) Sinn EZM in titanium The rest maybe are Lange. Those pieces I saw him wear on events and some for cycling with me.
