The AP regulator looks very interesting, but I like the cleaner look of the Patek, which I had the privilege to handle and listen to last summer (thank you Mr Vergotti).

The raised Breguet numerals and the enamel dial win it for me

Best sounding repeater IMO

It's a wonderful reference with no extra complications (which can obscure the sound). Simple understated case and white enamel dial that doesn't give a hint of what's underneath. It embodies all that Patek is!

and FWIW, reminds me of Speake-Marin’s motif

It's a true classic. To me Peter Speake-Marin simply copied this classic layout that had been employed long before his wrist watches even existed. The beauty of the 5078P is that it doesn't seem like anything special until you really start to inspect it ....  

But that PP is my absolute grail. My exit watch. So, no contest for me.

Did you have the dial changed? I thought the 5078 either came with roman numerals, or with silver breguet and breguet hands? Your version looks amazing!

So I cannot judge the sound. On the other side the PP is "simply" a beautiful and elegant watch with a great complication. The AP adds some elements to the design and to the movement that make it more peculiar. I would go for the AP.

I like the AP movement more. I can't say why, I just do. I like the case of the Patek Philippe more. It's thinner too. And automatic. Both sound great. And nobody cares which one I prefer.

I have had the pleasure handling both pieces and listen to them. Sadly a few years apart so I couldn’t say which one sounds best. And however interesting and impressive the AP is, that 5078 made me fall in love after a few minutes on the wrist. And I’m no...  

I personally like the PP better - both for its aesthetics and acoustically. Unfortunately I couldn’t load a video of both watches but on the AP, you can hear the regulator whirling when the repeater is engaged. This bothers me quite a lot and is an issue ... 

Both look amazing, but in general I prefer a white metal watch. GEO

No matter how the sound quality would be (I never had the chance to prove it personally) for me this watch is the most beautiful PP ever. Best, Thomas

Honestly, those are two very fine watches, I can’t comment on the sound but well done acquiring them and thanks for sharing.

AP would be my choice bcos sometime a quirky one works better just to say ‘don’t be too serious in life’ Best Mahesh
