I still believe that Rolex makes a very good watch at a not unreasonable price. But the availability is sorely lacking. I'm glad I bought mine decades ago for almost a tenth of what they go for now...
I feel the exact same way,
I like the ones I have and have no burning desire for the new models.
The current purchasing process does take enjoyment out of the experience.
They could come up with the perfect watch and what good would it be if you have to wait years or overpay scalpers? I miss the "old" days that actually weren't that long ago. Does this mean we're both getting old? I mean I know you are but me too? I guess ...
After owning more than a dozen over the years I think I can say I was once a fan, but I gave up on Rolex a couple years ago when lack of availability drove the market to stupid prices.
I do enjoy the two 30+ year old Oysters I still own but can't imagine ever wanting another Rolex, except perhaps a Cellini--a Rolex that doesn't look like a Rolex and remains reasonably priced, escaping the current Rolex hype. I no longer have any desire ...
Now that's more my style! My friends would think it's a Timex and I'm fine with that.
I even liked the Cellini line back in the '80s but back then I wanted everyone to KNOW I was wearing a Rolex. Today I really don't care what they think.

Well thought out choices. I have yet to arrive at that "very accomplished" feeling when it comes to Rolex as I lack the "right" sub. Figuring out what is "right" takes awhile! It needs to be a purchase with the heart more than the mind like the exp2 ..

The experience of trying to by a steel sports Rolex watch could be about to get a whole lot worse. There’s some talk going around that the brand is thinking about replacing the waiting list approach with a ‘preferred customer’ model.
This means even more exclusivity and an even more heated secondary / grey market.
