Horological Meandering

When I do not care about the Rolex release. 15 years ago it was so cool when they present the watches and you could buy one a few months later. Today Rolex has taken the cape out of the whole experience so they leave me untouched which is actually a nice ... 

I still believe that Rolex makes a very good watch at a not unreasonable price. But the availability is sorely lacking. I'm glad I bought mine decades ago for almost a tenth of what they go for now...

I like the ones I have and have no burning desire for the new models.

They could come up with the perfect watch and what good would it be if you have to wait years or overpay scalpers? I miss the "old" days that actually weren't that long ago. Does this mean we're both getting old? I mean I know you are but me too? I guess ... 

Both had only two tone models available.

But their models are still more exciting.

I do enjoy the two 30+ year old Oysters I still own but can't imagine ever wanting another Rolex, except perhaps a Cellini--a Rolex that doesn't look like a Rolex and remains reasonably priced, escaping the current Rolex hype. I no longer have any desire ...

I even liked the Cellini line back in the '80s but back then I wanted everyone to KNOW I was wearing a Rolex. Today I really don't care what they think.

Rolex may make very high quality watches but they tend to leave many of us underwhelmed.

I mostly have what I want when it comes to Rolex. I'm pretty satisfied. I did just sell my old 116660 DeepSea (a silly watch) to get a new 126660 James Cameron (an even sillier watch), but I had been thinking about doing that for several years, ever since...

The DeepSea is a completely unnecessary, overengineered, superfluous watch. I remember laughing hard back in 2008, when I first saw the 116660. And when I was done laughing, I started looking for one, because I thought Rolex executed the concept really we...  

And, I regularly wear 46-48 mm watches which are nowhere near as uncomfortable as the Deepsea.

Then I will try to dry it with a hairdryer or if this doesn’t work I will buy another one. 😊 ...  

I have two Rolexes that make me feel very accomplished. An original Kermit and 2nd gen Cameron. (I also thought the Deepsea was insane when it debuted, but the BLUE gradient dial AND 2nd gen modifications changed all that! BTW, mine fits my wrist beautifu... 

And AK in my case. Luckily, the 2020 novelties ain't it.

We all have the choice whether or not to accept these marketing torments. And we all have the choice whether we want to participate in a mass hype of speculation, greed and unreflected posing or not. Because many hunters simply don’t know it better. Or ha... 

Thats how I feel to. There is a whole world out there with other nice brands.

The one I still want... I happen to have not bought yet... so the drama continues... and probably for 1m collectors the same is true... I used to attempt to be critical of Patek... and I used to take quite a lot of pains to be very specific about 'Patek t... 

This means even more exclusivity and an even more heated secondary / grey market.

You have a perfect logical way of thinking. Why bother with things you can’t get? If you like some of their new watches, eventuality there may be a chance to get it. I mean, they are made by the millions So, let’s wait and see. Best regards. René
