The Eclipse

The Eclipse Onyx

“The magical colour of the stone provides a marvellous foil for the bright rhodium-plated metal of the eight stars and the moon.” [Press-Kit]

The watch was already introduced some years ago, but not in this version. Black onyx for the dial (dial cut from the disc of black onyx), 8 stars and 1 moon appliqués with rhodium treatment – sheer beauty and visual harmony.

The “smiling” moon at 6 o’clock and the way it is presented is the key signature. It’s charming in the sense that the black disk that slowly covers (and later releases) the moon resembles the shadow of earth on the moon.

All the other indications like centred hours, minutes, dates and days, months at 12 o'clock fit well. The case is in steel and the diameter is 43mm, which is rather large for a dress watch. Inside is the J*D double barrel movement 6553L2, again a Piguet.

The finish is not outstanding in terms of elaborateness (at least to our expectations), but well done and it looks good.

The face and style is very clean, easy to read and a pleasure to admire.

On the wrist it looks good on Magnus …

… and even better on Oliver’s ?

The Eclipse Ivory Enamel

The Eclipse Ivory Enamel version comes in red gold and the dial with its Grand Feu enameling dial is the key feature – plus the amazing moon. The technical specifications are similar to the version above. You can see a bit more of this watch in our 'Conclusions' below.

It is an appealing watch as well and if one likes it more than the Onyx is just a question of personal taste.
