That's quite a conundrum Jay.

Speaking from the heart, I'd probably say the GF as it's a watch that titillates the senses IMO. However, taking into account reliability, maintenance and long term servicing issues and to own one of the best chronos you can find anywhere, I'd go with the Lange. smile

Cheers

Well I can't keep both.... need some help please :-)

 By: jasny : November 8th, 2011-07:23
So several months ago I bought a Lange 1815 Chronograph, that just wasn't running right. I sent it into Lange service, and while it was there bought a Vianney Goldpfeil. Well economically speaking, I do not feel comfortable keeping both. Which one should ...

It really depends on which one you would like to wear more often...

 By: KIH : November 8th, 2011-07:29
Personally, I would go for 1815 CHR because (1) it is semi-icon of Lange and (2) it is more wearable as a business watch, IMHO. Again, it depends on your taste and your life style. Good luck and I hope you pick whichever you really love. Ken

Think Different, keep the Goldpfeil!

 By: amanico : November 8th, 2011-07:29
Everybody will tell you that you have to keep the Lange, or to stay with both of them, BUT: The Goldpfeil is a magic watch, when the 1815 Chrono is only a wise and beautiful watch. The Goldfeil is a crazy watch, on,e of those who made me dream about watch...

:)

Cuanta razon! Un abrazo. Vte

Maybe I should add that the Goldpfeil has been worn about 6 times since

 By: jasny : November 8th, 2011-07:36
Vianney did a total service on a non running NOS watch that was just stored for to long unused. So essentially both watches are perfect.

The Lange is classically styled...

 By: Emil Wojcik : November 8th, 2011-08:24
...and as such, will still be in style for the foreseeable future. The Goldpfeil will look dated very quickly, as styles and tastes change.

IF..

 By: hewitgar : November 8th, 2011-09:15
you are insistent on ridding yourself of one, then it should be the Lange... You can pick another one up once you realise you should never have let it go.. G

I like the Goldpfeil even if I didn't see one in the metal.

 By: radone : November 8th, 2011-09:19
But if it was me in your shoes, I would stay with the Lange.

I don't think I could part with that Lange

 By: respo : November 8th, 2011-12:01
But it is also my favorite Lange timepiece and one of my two favorite "dress" chronographs. Looking forward to seeing what you decide. respo

Lange

I'd pick the Lange........... no contest!

So far it is a tie. I was going to let the forum decide...

 By: jasny : November 8th, 2011-15:04
Right now it is 4 for the Lange and 4 for the Goldpfeil.

Well, again, it is your call...

 By: KIH : November 8th, 2011-15:34
... think! Which one would spend more time on your wrist? Imagine yourself with either watches.... whether you are a rebel or not , after all, a hobby is not for others, but for yourself to really enjoy - which one will give you more joy down the road.......

i vote for the vh goldpfeil! [nt]

Depends on what watches you have in your collection

 By: dreamer8 : November 8th, 2011-16:02
Hi Jas, IMHO, it depends what watches and how many you have in your collection. If it is varied in style and numbers like Nico's vast collection, I would say be a rebel, the VH appeals to me and I am a bit of a rebel in what I buy. If your collection is m...

My collection is pretty lean these days. I do however have the only....

stainless steel Roger Smith watch ever made. Other then that I only have 4 vintage pieces. So essentially the Goldpfeil would keep me somewhat focused on independents.

In this case, VH Goldpfeil

 By: dreamer8 : November 8th, 2011-16:21
You then have 2 rare and significant independents. Cheers, dreamer

No contest for me--VH Goldpfeil

 By: expwmbat : November 8th, 2011-16:12
But then again, I'm somewhat obsessed with it and its little brother the Jutzi Goldpfeil. If I ever have the opportunity to own either I will be very fortunate and happy, but the VH is especially special. Would you like to trade the VH for one of my child...

Oh no, college is on you. :-) [nt]

The Lange

 By: rwk246 : November 8th, 2011-16:45
The Goldpfell is unusual, but somewhat trendy looking. I doubt it will hold it's appeal 20 years from now (assuming this matters, and that you would keep it that long) The Lange is classic, and will always satisfy. My tastes in watches, as you can imagine...

Keep the Goldpfeil

and get a Datograph instead of the 1815 Chrono in the future Cheers, Anthony

You have a nice problem here.....

 By: tahoeblue : November 8th, 2011-18:00
Both classic watches, though not both with classical styling. Each an icon. I have owned both of these watches, and sold both of these watches. The one I regret selling more is the 1815 Chrono (though I am also a big Lange fan). if you are after a rare in...

Easy, Jay...

 By: pplater : November 8th, 2011-19:58
Keep those two, but sell the SS Roger Smith; you know where you can send it, and it will be given a very good home here! Cheers, pplater.

I would keep VH GF

 By: sidneyc : November 8th, 2011-20:25
- Much much easier to replace a 1815 Chrono than VH GF if you regret the decision later on - The 1815 Chrono have a newer version and is likely to be in the Lange portfolio for a long time, the VH GF is the one and only that will never ever happen again

That's quite a conundrum Jay.

Sell your current car and get a cheaper one instead then you can keep both

 By: TdotBean : November 9th, 2011-02:05
In term of rarity VH Goldfeil but is that important to you? If it were up to me I'll keep the Goldfeil because there's alot of Vianney in that watch plus a bit of horology history. (I love these kind stuff) I also like the understated look of the 1815 chr...

One more thought

 By: tahoeblue : November 9th, 2011-11:35
Sometimes this type of question can only be answered with considerable time for each watch on your wrist. If your cash flow can swing it, buy both, and spend some weeks with each watch. You will know the right answer after that. Once you sell one, you wil...

Lange all the way

 By: Zhege : November 9th, 2011-18:55
In 5, 10, 20 years - the classic design of the Lange will look just as good as it does today. Can you say that for the other? Sure, it's a very cool watch. But look at some of the cool watches from the 70s, 80s... not so cool today.

I'd keep the Goldpfeil

 By: schen : November 9th, 2011-20:21
My avatar has said it all. Here is my reasoning, from objective perspective down to subjective and personal bias. 1. Assuming I liked both equally, I would keep Vianney Halter Goldpfeil because at least there are some other chronographs similar to the 181...

I love the Lange, but

You'll always be able to get another Lange with the same superlative finish and quality... On the other hand, the goldpfeil is a classic, one of a kind, quite unique piece from one of the greatest independant ever. The opportunity to get your hand on a se...

Lange anytime for me ;)

That Vianney watch is só special and made with love. The Lange, although it's the nicest Lange I know, is just a Lange, they make hundreds of them, year in year out and hundreds look like them. All of them in the same round German case; it's a Merced...

Hi Jay!

Kind of a hard choice between two such brilliant pieces. I feel the 1815 would get a LOT more easy natural wrist time. But the Halter is one of those watches that is like owning a piece of Michelangelo's David or something... a 'piece' of a genius's work....
