Thanks for your kind comments, Tassos and Art,
Cooler weather and better wind conditions have been kinder to the fire-fighters this week and there is less direct threat to towns at the moment.
The combination of several years of drought, a record run of hot days over 43oC the week before and then this hottest day (people are starting to call it “Black Saturday”) ever on record for Victoria (46.4oC/115oF), as well as a rapid change in wind direction meant that even those who were relatively well prepared to fight the fire and protect their homes where overwhelmed.
I know that California and Greece have their fair share of fires and I appreciate your thoughts. There are a number of international fire fighters arriving from around the world to help us which is fantastic.
While these sorts of disasters put things into perspective, I am also reminded that our time pieces accompany us through life’s good and bad events. They are important companions and reminders of what we live through.
Kindest regards,
Andrew
