Many know I try to collect and focus on 4 brands, goes for different looks, functions and variety. In the end, it makes consolidating really difficult because I will miss each of them. Well…That’s today but I think as I aged further, problem will resolve ...

I’ve already been selling off select pieces to fund other incomings, but it starts to get harder and harder as the collection gets more selective and fewer.

I’ve been lucky to be selective and it’s a matter of time before I’m telling my ADs that my life is complete, really satisfied and no more requests.

No selling the daytyona and 5196p to me. I'd keep the GMT-2 too.

Next generation I cannot control or see…

Can I give you a probability question my dear Prof? If I have 12 watches for each of the 4 brands, and wearing 7 watches of different variation each week, how long will it take to get back to the first 7?

This means that if you never repeat the same 7 watches per week until you exhaust all possible combinations, you (seriously) have over 1.4 million (!) years before you have to get back to the same configuration!! I told you your collection is *really* goo...

The reason to release has to be greater than the reason to hold. 1) Find something greater to have than what you’ve got. 2) Find a new appreciating home for your beloved. Selling to a fellow collector does feel good. Now, if I had that collection, I would... 

Both are very good reasons to follow because I wear my watches with care and keep them pristine. I find it difficult to buy preowned unless it’s NOS because it hurts to see dings and scratches. I always wanted a dream Patek PCC 5x70 and Lange or PP perpet... 

… it can be hard to do if one is trying to do it from within the collection. There are so many considerations it can lead to paralysis. In my case it took external triggers to override my earlier ways of thinking. Once my mind was settled on new and much ... 

The trigger is not here yet but I can foresee if brands keep playing games of allocation, my desire to add more new watches will soon end. With no new additions, I think eventually it will lead to lack of interest and consolidation. Also as I heading towa... 

I haven't followed your approach closely but can see that you've been super focused on building relationships with ADs and the like. It shows in your amazing selection of watches. I've never had the appetite for the AD route and have probably only ever bo... 

My good relationship with ADs are built from many years and being respectful, nice and patience with them. I never push or keep calling them why my watch(es) haven’t arrive etc. and I leave it to them to allocate me a watch and no hard feelings when I don... 

I used to have rules for my collection. It kept the collection very small and very selective. But the rules were very restrictive. And now, I have no rules. And thus, I've quickly amassed many multiple pieces. And we've got to talk about this the next tim... 

My son notices my watches but his interest is on and off, maybe still young. I’ll give him a few more years after he graduates and see how it goes when he starts working. Watches as we know, has become a new asset class now, irreversible unfortunately so ...

I too am downsizing to 5, to cover all occasions and needs So a diver, Chronograph, travel, dress and “smart casual”, that can be a business suit as well How , I don’t know 🤦🏽‍♂️

7 for 7 days a week or 12 for 1 each month, or 30 for each day of the month....I don't know too. I think 7-12 for each of the 4 brands I like to collect will be somewhat a good maximum.

No clue how this could be bettered, dear Raymond. I am also in the process of focusing my collection and my experience so far is actually very good. At first it’s quite painful because as in your case, there are no weak pieces to let go without regrets. B... 

It is not like I had not let go of my earlier watches before...I consolidated a bunch of my early years collection, Corums, Maurice Lacroix, Tag Heuers to trade for a better watch. I am moving to the same direction as you too. Thanks and you too, enjoy th... 

I don't think I would let go of any of the watches in your shot. I just cannot, and even when coerced! It's perfect, and as a few had already commented, they are a magical collection in itself.

I think we started by not focusing and just trying to get to every new releases and/or always searching for the next one. I need to remind myself constantly but I know I am close to keeping my current collection permanent add filling up few voids, then st... 

But In general if I don’t wear and don’t find joy wearing a piece after a while I tend to let it go

But to be honest they don't have a lot of difference as to comes Patek, Lange and Omega if their appearance were the only factor. Finishing of the movements are naturally another thing.
