My thoughts
Some people may use money to buy materialistic things with a high price tag because they are in a position to. Technically there is no emotional value attached and they are buying it because of the price on the tag and to show certain people they can.
For others money is used when they finally make enough to make their dreams which they have harboured since childhood come true. They finally get the dream house they have always wanted or that great sports car they have always dreamed of since it was on their bedroom wall.
This is the first watch I was given when I was about 6 years old. A Flik Flack by Swatch. I recently found out from SJX's site that they are not going to make the aluminium case anymore. The photo doesn't show it but the copyright is 1993 by ETA on the dial Funny how instead of plastic they used a different material. I loved this watch to bits when I was younger and I still treasure it. Its got a few scrapes here and there but still looks relatively new.
After becoming more interested in watches and horology, I have my own dreams in regards to these fine timepieces. Obtaining a Patek Philippe perpetual calendar is dream is one and owning a Breguet with a tourbillon. Hopefully I can own them one day.
One mechanical object I would love to own which came out recently is the MB&F Music Box. After seeing it and the songs it plays it had me from the start. Especially with it playing Smoke on the Water.
On a lighter note to end my thoughts I saw an article yesterday on Sean Connery and how he turned down the part of Gandalf in Lord of The Rings. He turned it down because he did not understand the script. He was offered $10 Million for each film plus 15% of the gross for all 3 films. Fast foward to how much they made at the box office that was a missed $450 million opportunity.
After all its only money

I like it. I think it brings some meaning and incentive to work. And...it is a GREAT conversation piece...especially Deep Purple's Smoke on the water. I once HATED that song...because a guy could play it, on his guitar...and I couldn't. Thank God...or I w...

Rolexes may be common, but they are common for a reason and it is because they offer great value for money for what you get, so I completely agree with you on the value proposition of Rolex, it was wonderful to see all your collectibles and passions and h...

I wouldn't agree that it is silly or stupid, it makes perfect sense, the new generation 991 from a design perspective for myself is the best ever and so is the finishing, here was my experience with them: S

with that much R&D went into the production of Opus 3, how come HW does not utilize the solution and produce more siblings of this iconic piece? it is just very unlike HW's recent practice wherae they obvious have a lot of models offered in different pack...

I think that would defeat the object and purpose of the Harry Winston Opus line of exceptional timepieces. These are, as far as I understand, one time only collaborative efforts, utilizing the jeweler designs of the magnificent Harry Winston, and the uniq...

In Singapore: Bad: Cars cost 3 to 4 times MORE than in the USA. Good: We have cctv almost ALL over every square foot, because we are smaller than the entire size of a University campus in the USA. Bad: We cannot keep cars. After 10 years, we have to pay a...

... I suppose that's a good argument for public transportation. Your 911 must be pricey to keep around - gas and insurance not withstanding. The 356 is considered a "historical" vehicle and some tax/registration relief is applied. Overall the car runs gre...
