...even from the time I bought my first Cartier, the dumont, two years ago there seems to have been a significant appreciation in prices, also helped by the recent relaunches of several of the classic models. But the vintage Cartier is still surprisingly affordable considering the superb craftsmanship and often (if not always) excellent movements. Perhaps most of all, as you also point out, there is something incredibly timeless about many of their models. The fact that a watch is produced more than 100 years later with few if any changes in design makes vintage Cartier a unique value proposition.
