I will say, people are extremely badly behaved on planes. On one flight by Virgin Atlantic to London Heathrow, someone was smoking marijuana on the flight. They never caught the guy/gal. On another flight to Istanbul on Turkish, someone was smoking in the lavatory. Fire alarm is very subtle, and the green/red light for when the lavatory is available/occupied flashes yellow. Upon landing in Istanbul, the airport police seemed to just let him go. Didn't appear to serve him any paperwork nor fine him. During the flight, all of us passengers were worried. We thought something had caught fire. Not a good thought when you're at 30,000 feet in a metal tube with nowhere to run. We were thinking there was an electrical fire and there was a burnt smell on board. I noted, the smell might have the smell of tobacco, but I couldn't be sure if that was wishful thinking or not. When we saw the flight attendant start banging on the door of the lavatory, I remember hoping that it was merely a cigarette smoker. The flight attendant took the passenger's passport, gave it to airport police upon landing. And Istanbul Airport Police, from what I could tell, let the man go. The man was traveling with another woman - presumably his partner.
