Horological Meandering

I’d prefer the Daytona by far. However, I must acknowledge that it’s amazing that the design of the Speedmaster has lasted so long. Omega has used and abused that design in so many ways…

…yet the watch remains desirable.  Moreover, the hand winding movement would be a deterrent for many people.  And that particular bracelet I don’t like at all.  The NASA story has most certainly been the basis of the Speedmaster’s success but that could only go so far.  So at the end of the day the key of the watches success has been its design, the balance of the elements.  Too bad the ones with automatic movement are too bulky, thick, and at 42 mm bothersome on the wrist.  Otherwise I’d like to buy one, put it on a strap and use it as a daily beater watch.  The pointers are much more visible on the Speedmaster than on the Daytona.  The Speedmaster I own I keep just as a homage for one I had way back in the day when running all throughout Spain on Bultaco motorcycles.  But I was stupid enough to have traded that old friend for a Rolex OP.
