Horological Meandering

Just before the summer I visited London and went by Marcus Watches to get some input on what timepiece to shoot for next. Unfortunately the experience wasn't that great, with zero other customers and hours until close me and my wife was literally led out ... 

to chat to the guys and always have a warm welcome. However, the store can be a little intimidating and agree cold if they do not know you... the 100k would certainly open up some eyes for a deposit towards a Greubel! :) I know quite a few people that wil... 

Not a big spender so I know myself. No point going in just to give false impression that I may buy something hahaha... But it's a different thing if I know someone there, may just go in to have a chit chat. After all I think they won't always be busy :p

The first time by accident; just wandered in and was amazed - I'm sure they saw me like the typical hayseed country boy with a blade of grass in my teeth. The second time I was with my wife and we actually had to work to get some assistance. I guess it's ... 

It's just a place where people are trying to make money. The salespeople stand on their feet all day... And watch the clock. I have a close friend who is a Patek AD... And I guess the illusion was long ago shattered... All the diamonds and rolexes and Pat... 

But the difference is that at other places, like Cellini (Waldorf Astoria, New York) and Harry Winston (Crystals, Las Vegas), the staff not only welcomes you but grabs the chance to break out from the monotony by talking about their passion with someone w... 

just like you. Before I knew a little bit about watches I felt intimidated going in to high end places to look. If I wasn't looking to actually buy something I didn't want to waste the sales person's time by having them get a watch out of the case that I ... 

Lol it's the place where they will ignore you if you don't seem like someone who can afford 100k + watches. Wear a GF and they will treat you like a royalty. A friend of mine (tourist) was at Paris Patek AD and the sales was ignoring him until one of them... 

Marcus are very professional retailers and Iam surprised such an incident happen whereby you were not shown high end watches the way they are suppose to be. personally IMHO i prefer buying watches from direct brand boutiques whereby the efforts are put in... 

... since we somehow seem to expect people working in such temples of horology automatically sharing our passion for timepieces. No. For the majority of them, this is a job, like any other would be. How many of us are really passionate about their daytime... 

Dreadful place. Utterly disinterested staff. If I saw a watch I really wanted in there, I'd buy it someplace else.
