I've always tried to be a value collector. That means exploring ALL watches (which is free), then zeroing in on good quality, undervalued watches across my range of tastes
This eventually led me to a collection of around 40 watches. I could instead have focused on one quarter of that number with much more coveted or rarified show pieces but I would have lost out on the thing I enjoy most: variety.
As it is, I don't wear most of the watches I've bought over the years. They're more like objet d'arts and subjects of study. So I'm now whittling down aggressively with the intention of keeping about ten watches. I want enough to mix and match my moods, and of a kind I can wear without worry or thought.
While this might seem like a drastic change, there's one constant: my private pleasure. The only thing that's changed is how I want to obtain that pleasure.
