Horological Meandering

How I plan my next target..

I used to make a list on bits and pieces of paper.

What I do now (just very recently) is download photographs, make an album in my ipad, then view it in album mode where all the pieces are tiled. I move them around in order depending on what I really want to get versus, say, the ease of getting a piece ranked number 3 or 4 simply because they’re priced less.

It’s a neat exercise on coherence as well.. makes me want to dwell on its importance as a criteria.. I realized that my watch box doesn’t need to be coherent in a strict sense. I’d rather that it addresses all my major moods or perhaps an outlook that I want to adopt but having a hard time doing so.

To illustrate, here’s something that’s ongoing..

The Hamilton Khaki is a low-hanging fruit so there’s a very high chance that I’d get one if it becomes available in my neck of the woods.. that’s why it’s in first place (top left).. I can get that without derailing significantly those that are in the pipeline of wants that would require a bit more money.

The 232 is next. If the price is right, I will jump on one. The way I see Panerai is that I want to realistically buy what represents the “DNA” of a particular line. For the Luminor series, I got the 372. For the Rads, not so easy with the current lineup. There is simply not a 372 equivalent on the Radiomir line. So if I want to get a good example of a Rad, I’d have to wait for a 232 to pop up. Consequently, that also means I need to have a 587 in that album of mine :P

The DJ36 (or 40) is something that I will definitely buy when the cash flow resumes a more stable level as I don’t have an everyday office piece. Here’s the quirk.. I’d readily spring for a 232 but due to some weird psychological reasoning that I won’t spring right away for DJ which should cost less than a 232 especially if it’s pre-owned.

So this is then how it looks like.. And yes, all subject to change! I don’t have one for grails.. That’s best left in dreams smile

Good post! Best, Echi.
