This is where all those Rolex Subs and GMTs were bought in the 70s. How many stories have we read about this watch or that being bought for $200 bucks in such and such base. The PX is also tax free!

I did buy my IWC Portuguese Perpetual Calendar in 2016, and it remains a favorite execution of that complication, so far as design is concerned. ...

Appreciate the honesty. But even at retail it was still a $$$$ watch and so it really needs to be something you bond with.

Over time I fell out of love with it. I’m just not crazy about “Ice Blue” dial mixed with “chestnut brown “ bezel. Luckily the secondary market was hot when I let it go.

The weight of watches never seems to bother me. I know many don’t like heavy watches though. It’s mostly the dial color I didn’t appreciate. Baby blue is far from my favorite color 😁. Slightly too feminine for me. Just my personal opinion 👍

You know, if it was your Dato I’d have owned back then I’d likely still have it. As much as I did like the Up/Down, and I made a conscious choice that it was better for me than the OG Dato, ultimately the size was too much for my wrist. Similar story on t... 

Back then with way less social media, I was buying what was “HOT”, but as much as I forced myself to wear them i quickly learned that strap watches are not for me. The Dato was to tick and despite me buying the deployment, I was never balanced. Yes, I hea... 

Silly me back then actually waited for it, I bought it right when they released it. The prior years I’d looked a lot at the 39mm, but thought it too small. And this was also when the blue dials were to be bought at the AD. AND, I got somewhere between 25%... 

The 15202 could be bought with four months wait! Crazy times ))

And I went back and forth for about a week thinking about which one to buy. There was no danger of the AD not having both ! This was 2012, when the 41mm ROC was released.

Around 2015-16 they told me four months, and they had a sample in the boutique to try it on Now I can’t wait for my 39mm chrono to return from service!

The VC after sales service managed to ruin my love for the brand. Most collectors buy a watch, I buy a brand!

I attribute it to Richemont.

I remember those style pictures. There used to be a guy on vintage Rolex forums that always posted with a map background. He’s still around, but I don’t frequent that forum any more.

I’m thinking of an NYC guy. I’ll figure it out. He was super helpful when I was looking for something back then.

And both generations. Coincidence, selection bias, or does that say something about the watch. On that latter point, it is definitely one of those aspirational watches for collectors. I wonder if that means many will own it, because they must, but ultimat... 

the original Dato is an icon and aspirational as you say but it just isn't for everyone. For me (simple person that I am) it ended up just feeling a tad too small especially after I bought the Double Split. The Datograph Perpetual hits the sweet spot for ... 

But that was the year this old GP Gyromatic came to me. And this Baume et Mercier Copeland World Timer got a lot of wrist time. I stumbled on this Concord Saratoga 20th Anno. Dual -Time Chronograph, with a La Joux Perret movement modified to provide colum...  

It’s an eclectic mix, I don’t think I’d seen either the GP or that Ebel before.

I’m better about buying than selling in general, but wouldn’t be tempted to move these along even if I was more of a trader. —Rick

which for me is ultimately easier to just say to myself “I sincerely like having and wearing XYZ watch too much to let it go.” And for the CB, it is truly a special and beautiful a piece to let go.

So you have a relatively young watch story. I feel like getting into this space in the last decade one was both blessed with the availability of information but cursed with the focus on market values and the increasing difficulty to just buy what you want... 

I was just hearing this on the radio about 2016 becoming viral....The 2 major events that year were Brexit and Trump. The sentiment about Trump getting elected totally changed after Brexit. From that point onwards, it was nothing is impossible. Going thru...  

…and as you found that same explanation. Interestingly I didn’t know the Chopard was available back then. I only saw that watch for the first time a year or two ago. I think may also have still had my 372 in 2016, or I just sold it a year prior. Like some...
