Eberhard golden age

The 60s Eberhard production cited by Tony and others (Scafograf, Scientigraf without to forget the Contograf) are appealing and highly collectible IMO.

We could also speak about the Contodat, first chronograph with date, the gold case execution with its terrific lugs is a joy to look at, I expect Matt to chime in soon ;-)

To my eyes, the Eberhard golden age goes from the mid 30s to the 40s.

Eberhard has been very successful in Italy being very involved in the Italian Motorsport in the 30s and subsequently became the official watchmaker of the Italian Navy.

Some of the chronographs of that era

2 key features, the obvious step back bezel and the huge (at the time) 39 mm diameter case
we can also find many attractive looking dials

in 1938 Eberhard introduced a model featuring a 12 hours counter

In 1939 their first split second chronograph

many others will follow

On the movement side, Eberhard mainly used Valjoux ebauches with anglages finishing

In 1940 they unveiled their Caliber 1600 which offered a slide located at 4 allowing to interrupt the timing as often as desired and start it up again, it was therefore vastly suitable for every kind of addition timekeeping

Eberhard was definitely a key player in the chronographs world, it's easy to understand why Italian collectors - beyond the particular historical links - pay so much attention to these magnificent timepieces.

Best,

Laurent
