Both generations before me had nothing but the BEST to say about Omega and it's truly "superlative" chronometry. In those days, Mido and Rado were the other big names in the Far East.
Rolex was a Johnny-come-lately because they did not really take off until the 1950s and 60s with solid gold bracelet Day-Dates and James Bond-endorsed Submariners. Even though the screen James Bond now wears Omega, audiences are not as awed by his image of "international man of mystery and sexual prowess" as they used to 
I blame cable TV and CNN for that!

I am actually giving some accolade to Rolex for being the incredible business machine it is. Putting it this way...if anyone asked me which company to invest in(not buy watches)...I may say Rolex. But my personal definitions of contribution to watchmaking...
