ABSOLUTELY

One of the most beautiful watches which I can think is Journe’s first Tourbillon. It truly looks handmade. I utterly enjoy the engraving of his name and on the power reserve. The watch looks to have come from the 1800s which in my view is very beautiful.

JB Viot’s watch I find also very endearing. Some may see his watch as having a lack of finishing while others may just see it as a different type of finishing. I personally love it and find it more charming than an ultra crisp timepiece we are accustomed to seeing from just about anyone willing to reach those standards.

Would you wear an unfinished watch?

I've been haunted since Christian posted the F.P. Journe Resonnance shown below. Photo by ChristianDK@WatchProSite This has got me thinking... People are buying vintage watches with war-wounds and patina. Manufacturers are re-issuing watches with faux pat...

In short, yes I would. Its like seeing the workings of a great mathematician or the sketches of a grand master and I certainly would not have it re-finished just as I wouldn't ask for those

sketches to be filled with oil at a later date. In a way all watchmakers develop their work over time and this is just one stage or iteration of that and that has a beauty all of its own. Just my opinion. Best Will

Thank you. I appreciate your perspective.

There is a beauty and honesty in the rough object. -John

I'd potentially be ok with it for a lower price

I wouldn't pay a premium for it

Let Me Think About That...

... YES.

This particular watch, preferably with a finished movement? YES!

Even with an unfinished movement!

In principle,yes. It would depend...

On its performance and price.

"Functional" versus "Cosmetic" finishing is a subjective matter.

I would leave it to the maker to determine the finishing level of their product. -John

All right, I suppose. (nt)

I love the aged look to the guilloche. The slightly dirty look of an old Breguet Pocketwatch vs. the ultra clean and crisp dials we see today. I prefer the former but can understand why this wouldn’t be everyone’s taste.

Wouldn't buy an unfinished . . .

. . . pool cue . . . . . . and probably wouldn't bother with an unfinished watch, either. (For the record, this particular cue was finished - the photo was taken while it was under construction.) Art ...

Of course.

First, a technical prototype of a career-defining watch by a modern master begs no excuses, and I'm not even a Journe fan. I'd wear this in an instant after a factory service to ensure it's working as intended. Besides, "unfinished" describes virtually ev...

Well said, Tim. [nt]

Without a doubt!

It is the same as the sketches of famous artists / painters. In fact they tell you more about the development to the final piece of art. Beautiful in its own right. Are you getting this one? A real treasure! Best. René
