You do have a sickness

I'M GOING TO MOVE THIS THREAD TO Horological Meandering

If it bothers you, don't buy a cheaper watch, save for a better one. As they say, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" and what you will do (if you have this sickness) is end up with 20-40-60-80 cheap watches.

I know, I have done it. So have many of us.

ALMOST NO ONE CAN BUY A WATCH WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT IT TWICE - BECAUSE WE (almost always) LIKE THINGS PRICED UP TO (or higher than) OUR LIMIT

Then it means you have to sell off half or three-quarters of those to get a few better ones. Unless you like the roller-coaster ride and are good at "letting go" of mistakes, don't make them in the first place.

Hang in there and buy decent watches you can handle first - because then the level of buyer's remorse will be less. If you can't find them locally, find an Internet dealer that will let you try and return.

As I learned in the car business, it's a lot easier to buy a Triumph, Citroen, Borgward, etc than it is to sell one!

Good luck, don't give in.

Cazalea

PS - buy a Seiko Presage or a watch like this -- $300 bucks new, looks great, runs fine, sells for 100% of its value whenever you want.

Serious Question How hard is it to resist buying a new watch?

Now when I decided to join this lovely forum I knew it wouldn't be like the others out there. Its safe for me to say, the watches people have here aren't your typical run of the mill Mall or department store brands which is why its one reason I like being...

Not so much the cheaper brands

Firstly thanks for putting this in the correct section. It's not so much about the ''Cheaper'' Brands but the constant urge to want to buy and buy. Just a few hours ago I was on a certain tv shopping website looking and almost pulled the trigger on two wa...

Maybe you’re not married?

If you were, a quick slap up the side of your head from your wife would lessen those urges ... Married, watch-loving Gentlemen, do you agree? Cazalea

Hahaha. Yes. [nt]

I will just repeat what I’ve told a lot of other people who just started this journey: if cost is really an issue and you can’t resist the watch bug, buy 3 brands: Seiko, Nomos, Sinn. You won’t regret. And this is what I’m doing all the time to fill up th...

Wise words..

It's quite hard.

I always set my eyes out for my next watch... then the watch after... and the watch after that. I really need to exercise discipline. One way is to buy it on installment plan even if I have the cash now. And not to buy anything until the previous one is f...

But the urges do change once you’ve scratched the itch often enough

Now, as for solutions, I have none. There is always another one, and another one. My way of dealing with this issue is to only buy a watch when there is a special occasion to mark it. That way, each watch is associated with a special moment/place/achievem...

Depends on the quality of your therapist 😉

Keep away from forums like this 😉

Its like poison for your wallet 😁

Think on where you’ll be in 10 years - 40 watches that if cost was aggregated could have bought a nice Rolex!

Do you really want a stack of $300 watches? If so knock yourself out - it’s a free world. But I guess sooner or later some buyer remorse will occur and you’d wished that constraint and patience had occurred. If you have a need to scratch the itch often th...

It doesn't stop, so you either get off the train now or be prepared for the never ending search for something new.

As others have said if you can be disciplined enough to hold off on some of the lesser purchases so that money can be accumulated for a larger purchase then this may be a good idea. We have a way of justifying 10 purchases at $300 over a period of time wh...

Stay clear, but if you can not here is my 2 cents:

Buying a special watch is a special occasion, and it should never be compulsive. Do not buy a watch you are not completely smitten with. Parting with a good watch to fund another purchase is easy for some and a heartbreak that others in this forum find ve...
