Learning about quality finishing and I was wondering
Jun 05, 2021,23:52 PM
I have been wondering and reading about movement finishing. Machine vs hand finishing. Different types. Different styles (varying by country: Swiss, German, Japanese, Dutch, Austrian).
I’m a bit confused about the matter because I think my eyes are still not trained. People sell you that PP is good, but at the entry level, say a Calatrava is nice! But similar to a Grand Seiko I have, no judgement I love the Calatrava… same with a Lange 1 - I love it but looks like a big part could have been done by machine, yet I’m not 100% sure.
So after this rambling… where can a collector on a budget can start looking at good finishing. Let’s say 2 brackets:
- less than 25k
- less than 60k
- less than 100k

under 25k: I think this is a good price range for starting to look at high end finishings. Quality anglage, engraving, enamel/guilloche dials, black polished parts, gold chatons, and gold rotors can be obtained depending on the brand. I would primarily lo...
An Interesting topic, and a complicated one.

I would suggest the naked watchmaker deconstructions. Seeing is better than reading about. From the larger brands if you want high quality finishing for your $$ I would say one can find exceptional examples by parmigiani and breguet. But it varies a lot f...

Just get yourself a Lange, and spare us the rant. Youtube said it, so it must be right. I much prefer Lange over Patek, but your rant is repetitive and tiresome.
Hmmm ... Lange is part of Richemont.

The time only 1815 is incredibly basic. I don't want to start a long discussion but can be compared to ETA. They used to apply high finishing to the invisible parts, not anymore. Basically there are no saints in this business. Do your research, decide wha...
That’s a wonderful example.

I was looking at other pictures and that balance wheel looks so big, it must be nice to stare at.
This conversation is getting uncomfortably close to . . .

Still my approach is from the consumer side. I my intention is about learning about what others have experienced! 🤠
