New MING 22.01 GMT Timepieces

 By: patrick_y : March 9th, 2022-17:17
MING has created two new timepieces. They both feature a GMT function. Tastefully presented with a futuristic modern elegance, they're definitely appropriate for the business casual world. This is MING's biggest launch to date both in units and in value. ...

I like the Kyoto as well....

Funnily enough, in that version, it somewhat reminds me of my all-time favorite sports watch - the AMVOX 1 . Thanks for the info, Filip

Funny you would mention that because he did own an Amvox1.

And BTW I think the new models look great ...

Thank you for this awesome post!

Nice to see you've finally posted! And what a tremendous first post! That is certainly a handsome picture of Ming Thien! Thanks for sharing! I guess our WatchProSite member had a deep clairvoyance about this upcoming watch! It's like the sommeliers who ta...

Hahaha xD

Hilarious Patrick! Cheers, Filip

Yes! Let us know what else you see in this watch!

 By: patrick_y : March 10th, 2022-21:52
You see a little AMVOX1, what else do you see a little of?

As far as independents go....

 By: InHavenPro : March 10th, 2022-22:11
Another all-time favorite of mine appears to bear some influence - Sarpaneva.... But now it might just be my highly biased personal aesthetic sensibility speaking here........ Cheers, Filip

I see it!

 By: patrick_y : March 10th, 2022-22:16
The crystal has the wavy lines that remind me of a Sarpaneva, and the case and crown have a little similarity to a Sarpaneva.

Precisely :)

 By: InHavenPro : March 10th, 2022-22:17

Hilarious! :)

 By: InHavenPro : March 10th, 2022-17:46
I had no idea.... Well, clearly a man with great taste . I am continuing to pay attention to his efforts every time something new is announced........ Cheers, Filip

It would appear that Ming is going to sell out another batch. It’s interesting to see their unique aesthetic continue to evolve.

And I would agree with you, Patrick, my favorite is the short run of ultra thin pieces they produced - the 27.01 & 27.02. The extensively customized ETA Peseux 7001 movements by Schwarz-Etienne are very eye-pleasing. ...

We agree on so many things!

 By: patrick_y : March 9th, 2022-22:08
Yes, I still maintain that the slim 27 series is my favorite!

Hope To Get A Gilt Dial

 By: enjoythemusic : March 9th, 2022-18:41
Gives a bit of that modern-vintage vibe. 👍 Perhaps retro-futuristic.

With this big of a release, I think you'll be able to get one!

 By: patrick_y : March 9th, 2022-22:08
"Retro-futuristic" I like that term!

Thx

 By: enjoythemusic : March 9th, 2022-22:23
Last time my cards kept getting bounced. Yeah, I know... I know how to fix it. (deep sigh, eye roll)

Yes, my Mastercard bounced.

 By: patrick_y : March 10th, 2022-06:31
Then I switched to my trusty VISA Infinite card, and it worked. My AMEX also always works, but I don't think they accepted AMEX at the time. One of the watch brands that does these kinds of online drops doesn't accept AMEX.

Two great new ming,s

 By: Watchonthewrists : March 9th, 2022-19:12
Still enjoy my older two ming watches a lot

That's good to know!

 By: patrick_y : March 9th, 2022-22:09
Seems like they've been reliable and enjoyable!

I’m not keen in paying 9-12+ months in advance

 By: cazalea : March 9th, 2022-19:44
The site is very specific about deposits being non-refundable. All very well for them to avoid risk, but for something you actually wear which you can’t try on or see anywhere? How many of us have bought a watch and said Oops, that was a mistake? I had a ...

That's true!

 By: patrick_y : March 9th, 2022-22:10
These companies are trying to have the clients fund their venture... So that way they can reduce their risk and reduce their financial exposure. It's financially a smart move for the company. But it's annoying for clients!

Also, we have to have some empathy for the company.

 By: patrick_y : March 10th, 2022-06:16
MING has been unfortunately a bit popular for the flippers. Some flippers try to buy the watch and flip it to make a thousand dollars or sometimes more! So basically, MING requires a long-term financial outlay in the form of a deposit (that's not refundab...

They have since an amazing business model.

 By: doubleup : March 9th, 2022-21:30
Was just thinking of your mentioned reasons last week when they had announced the dates. What a cool company and yes all have indeed sold out. I like them and am seriously considering a Ming piece

I don't think this one will sell out as quickly...

 By: patrick_y : March 9th, 2022-22:12
Some of the editions, like the 27 series, and the 17.09 blue/burgundy models sold out in less than five minutes. This one should be available for a couple days I hope. Since they're releasing 2000 examples! That's 6 million Swiss Francs in revenue! Which ...

This one isn't a queue.

 By: patrick_y : March 10th, 2022-06:17
It's an "online drop" style of sale. Very different to a queue system. Thus, no queue. You buy it online at the time specified. But yes, depending on what timezone you're in, you might have to wake up at an inconvenient time to get your watch!

I didn’t realize that they are titanium case watches this time…

 By: ArmisT : March 10th, 2022-01:50
I’m not sure if that is a first for them. Regardless, I agree they are very nicely designed and challenging to resist.

Yeah! Titanium!

 By: patrick_y : March 10th, 2022-06:23
I don't know if that's a first for them. It's a nice touch. Much more expensive than the usual 316L steel for MING. And they can't charge much more for titanium.

For me it's bad timing!

 By: patrick_y : March 10th, 2022-17:04
I've already got plenty of commitments this year, so I don't plan to order one.

Same…I had to hold myself today.

 By: ArmisT : March 11th, 2022-02:32
These guys aren’t going away anytime soon, so we’ll see what the future brings.

I've had that problem before. I got both!

 By: patrick_y : March 10th, 2022-06:19
Not advocating you do that. But it's a solution! The Kyoto is definitely very easy for me to like. And the Gilt has a lot of personality! Can't go wrong with either!

It will be interesting to see how well this does.

 By: Bounce781 : March 10th, 2022-03:50
I like MING but I suspect in the past, some of their success and “buzz” has been because the watches were so limited. With the editions getting larger, will the same level of collector fervour persist? Hmm PS Kyoto is the one I like best too. Strongly tem...

This one, I think they're hoping to expand their reach...

 By: patrick_y : March 10th, 2022-06:21
2000 units, that's a lot of watches. They're trying to go more mainstream. They're not trying to be a tiny micro-brand with thing 50 watch drops that creates more disappointed clients than happy clients (the 50 watch drop I heard about was supposedly was ...

Well, the 300 for the current owners sold out this morning. So a successful start for this one.

 By: Jay (Eire) : March 10th, 2022-14:39
I kinda like the Kyoto, but more so that I like the idea of the green more so than the execution. In the press photos however the Gilt seems more cohesive. Hard to know what I would prefer in the metal.

I get mine :)

 By: Independent_watch_collector : March 10th, 2022-18:13

I will 👍
