When I get back home I am going to have to check how many of my watches fit the criteria. I honestly do not know at this stage. The one I am currently wearing does not, Rolex DSSD. Nice collection by the way. Best regards, George

the rule is flexible......

how do you like the GMT? Regards. Simon

I had the chance to handle it in London.

 By: foversta : February 19th, 2012-02:59
And it is a watch i really like. Of course, it is not a watchmaking breakthrough. It uses a Soprod movement + a module. But I like the care of details, the design, the case shape and the very neat dial. A watch with a lot of charm even it it is quite bulk...

Thanks for the impressions.....

 By: sclamb : February 19th, 2012-13:19
I'm not sure I could get away with another watch that permits easy strap changes Simon

Of course it works very well FX.....

Is there room for some recent ones?

 By: ztirual : February 19th, 2012-10:00
Thanks for initiating this initial thread, Ed. I see many watches that I really like. Here is another one that one does not see so often. Early 60's Certina DS. Best Ztirual...

Wondering what DS stands for, Z . . .

 By: Dr No : February 19th, 2012-13:09
. . . can you possibly enlighten us? Thanks, Art

DS = "Double Security"

 By: nilomis : February 19th, 2012-13:15
I was also wondering about the meaning "DS" and .... "Certina created the concept of suspending the watch movement inside a highly reinforced case, which they named DS for "Double Security" (Source Wikipedia). Cheers, Nilo

Ah, thanks, Nilo! A progenitor of . . .

 By: nilomis : February 19th, 2012-14:31
It's a blueprint of a Klingon spaceship, for sure. Now serious. GO is an almost that I know nothing. Cool and impressive watches. Cheers, Nilo

LOL, Nilo . . .

 By: Dr No : February 19th, 2012-16:44
. . . but you're right, Nilo - this is precisely the watch . . . . . . a Klingon would wear ....

Yes, DS stands for double security/ safety

 By: ztirual : February 20th, 2012-08:33
DS was (and still is?) Certina's patented solution from 1958 for securing their watches against shock by insulating the movement within the casing by mounting an elastic shock absorber ring all around it. I have quite a few of those early models and will ...

its a pleasure ztirual...

 By: EdwardL : February 19th, 2012-21:56
Yes indeed some magnificent PCs has shown up so far. I loved your DS in such a splendid condition. I don't mind something like that. Thanks for tking part in this thread. Ed

One of my faves

 By: Ginger : February 19th, 2012-11:28
And Art, I believe that during the thread the standard was relaxed to 3 out of 4 numbers, because of date windows, subseconds, etc. But I suppose a "Purist" must be a a purist.... Ginger

The standards have been relaxed? Well, in . . .

 By: Dr No : February 19th, 2012-12:19

looks NOS. Wow!!!! It's stunning. So is the IWC, and yes the 3 numeral is visible sure. Ed

Ah, the Senator Sixties is a relatively new model . . .

 By: Dr No : February 20th, 2012-09:52
. . . from G O, and not one of the vintage models from the '60s, Ed. Frankly, GUB movements then weren't nearly as attractively finished as today's models, like the cal 39 fitted to the Sixties . . . . . . so this is one instance when my preference is for...

Thanks for the correction. Art...

 By: EdwardL : February 20th, 2012-17:35
This movement finish is indeed attractive. Thanks. Ed

They are far frm being all 3 / 6 / 9 / 12, Edward!

 By: amanico : February 19th, 2012-12:17
Well, I say that because I am jealous. Yes, I have a few 3 / 6 / 9... I had a few 3 / 6 / 9 / 12, but it doesn't seem to be the case anymore. I do agree with you, their balance is very eye catching. Best, my friend. Nicolas

I am flattered my friend.....

 By: EdwardL : February 20th, 2012-02:46
The envy is normally the otherway round. I sincerely hope the missing pcs makes it back to your collection someday. best my friend. Ed Ps. Was hoping your 1016 to join in. 3-6-9 fits this criteria.

The Explorer cannot really qualify due to its missing "12". Nevertheless, replaced by the nice triangle/diamond marker (not sure how to call it) instead, symbolic to even the Subs. Cheers...

Don't worry KCKL ...

 By: EdwardL : February 20th, 2012-02:59
I also cheating on that rule myself. I remember your Exp, and was hoping it will show up. Thank you. Ed

The appearance of these four numbers make our dials less machined

 By: KC74 : February 20th, 2012-03:10
or robotic, can't really find the right word, softens the appearance, more balanced in some sense definitely, less military or hard, for what I am trying to say...as compared to say a Breitling where rectangle markers mostly used.

Two from the past
