No selling the daytyona and 5196p to me. I'd keep the GMT-2 too.

Setting myself up for failure?

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 6th, 2022-01:33
Many know I try to collect and focus on 4 brands, goes for different looks, functions and variety. In the end, it makes consolidating really difficult because I will miss each of them. Well…That’s today but I think as I aged further, problem will resolve ...

Very good collection

One of the best in this forum.

Too kind, my friend…I’m embarrassed 😊🙏🏻

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 6th, 2022-01:50
Always a pleasure. Thank you.

Definitely.

Top row, second from right...

 By: mdg : November 6th, 2022-01:46
...what a beauty : )

Let you in for a treat …

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 6th, 2022-01:52
...

It would be impossible for me to let go any of these particular pieces.😳

 By: ArmisT : November 6th, 2022-01:57
I’ve already been selling off select pieces to fund other incomings, but it starts to get harder and harder as the collection gets more selective and fewer.

That’s why when people ask me which one to keep if only have one…my answer is always….”Kill me instead 🤣”

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 6th, 2022-02:25
I’ve been lucky to be selective and it’s a matter of time before I’m telling my ADs that my life is complete, really satisfied and no more requests.

No, not selling any of these…at least during my lifetime 😬

Next generation I cannot control or see…

Will a titanium Deepsea be on your list?

 By: Cookies : November 6th, 2022-09:28
=D it is marvellous from what I see on the pictures. Wow!

Most likely not...I don't even have the Deepsea or SeaDwellers because of the size.

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 6th, 2022-15:23
This monster will look weird on my wrist but then it is their 1st RLX Titanium watch....eh....so some historical significance. I'm sure other models will come, so I'll wait.

The combinations I got from mixing and matching every week makes it very enjoyable and fresh…

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 6th, 2022-02:29
Can I give you a probability question my dear Prof? If I have 12 watches for each of the 4 brands, and wearing 7 watches of different variation each week, how long will it take to get back to the first 7?

;-)) If the watches are chosen independently of brands, then the total number of choices you have is $\binom{12 \times 4}{7}$ (read "48 choose 7" in English), which is precisely equal to... 73,629,072! :-)

 By: FabR : November 6th, 2022-02:44
This means that if you never repeat the same 7 watches per week until you exhaust all possible combinations, you (seriously) have over 1.4 million (!) years before you have to get back to the same configuration!! I told you your collection is *really* goo...

WHUT…WHAT!? O M G 😱

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 6th, 2022-02:54
Thank you so so very very much my dear Professor 🙏🏻 I am totally satisfied and can “go” with no regrets now…you are awesome 💪🏻 Have a great weekend…I don’t have to think what to wear next week, just close my eyes and pick 7!

Good grief hahaha 🤣

 By: Rosneathian : November 6th, 2022-03:44

Wonderfully curated collection.

 By: John-E-Mac : November 6th, 2022-02:34
The reason to release has to be greater than the reason to hold. 1) Find something greater to have than what you’ve got. 2) Find a new appreciating home for your beloved. Selling to a fellow collector does feel good. Now, if I had that collection, I would...

Thank you for the words of wisdom and enlightening comments 🙏🏻

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 6th, 2022-03:01
Both are very good reasons to follow because I wear my watches with care and keep them pristine. I find it difficult to buy preowned unless it’s NOS because it hurts to see dings and scratches. I always wanted a dream Patek PCC 5x70 and Lange or PP perpet...

You have a very beautiful collection and an interesting collecting logic. As for changing/shrinking the line up…

 By: Rosneathian : November 6th, 2022-03:41
… it can be hard to do if one is trying to do it from within the collection. There are so many considerations it can lead to paralysis. In my case it took external triggers to override my earlier ways of thinking. Once my mind was settled on new and much ...

You are absolutely right…

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 6th, 2022-04:00
The trigger is not here yet but I can foresee if brands keep playing games of allocation, my desire to add more new watches will soon end. With no new additions, I think eventually it will lead to lack of interest and consolidation. Also as I heading towa...

The "trigger" isn't a single moment. We don't wake up one morning a different person. It sneaks up on you, as bits of thinking and feeling and gut instinct gradually come together until they form a new clarity of thought and purpose

 By: Rosneathian : November 6th, 2022-16:28
I haven't followed your approach closely but can see that you've been super focused on building relationships with ADs and the like. It shows in your amazing selection of watches. I've never had the appetite for the AD route and have probably only ever bo...

The pandemic, son going to college and less social events are a few factors…

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 6th, 2022-17:12
My good relationship with ADs are built from many years and being respectful, nice and patience with them. I never push or keep calling them why my watch(es) haven’t arrive etc. and I leave it to them to allocate me a watch and no hard feelings when I don...

I used to have rules...

 By: patrick_y : November 6th, 2022-03:43
I used to have rules for my collection. It kept the collection very small and very selective. But the rules were very restrictive. And now, I have no rules. And thus, I've quickly amassed many multiple pieces. And we've got to talk about this the next tim...

Not much rules but playing within the boundary conditions…lol.

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 6th, 2022-04:12
My son notices my watches but his interest is on and off, maybe still young. I’ll give him a few more years after he graduates and see how it goes when he starts working. Watches as we know, has become a new asset class now, irreversible unfortunately so ...

So true!

 By: patrick_y : November 6th, 2022-04:20
Nothing is more true than that last sentence. Who knows, maybe your i8 will become a collector's item one day. That is a super cool machine!

I guess when enough time has past

 By: Mr.Gatsby : November 6th, 2022-04:49
You will know what you can live without. But till that day, if it is unnecessary to cut then don’t. But I sense that you know this already. You are far from clueless Best Gatsby

When I say I know exactly what my grail and end game watch is, I meant it…

I know when I will or should stop…when it’s time to move on. Only when one feels contented, “desire” will not be a suffering for me. Thanks for your kind comments, my friend 🙏🏻

Eureka! I will keep that in mind 👍🏻

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 6th, 2022-16:52

Try and you will see! ;)

 By: amanico : November 6th, 2022-16:54

First of all, what a magnificent collection, but I feel your pain

 By: Miranda : November 6th, 2022-10:25
I too am downsizing to 5, to cover all occasions and needs So a diver, Chronograph, travel, dress and “smart casual”, that can be a business suit as well How , I don’t know 🤦🏽‍♂️

Less then 15 or getting watch fatigue or both!

By: Chronometer (aka yacomino) : November 6th, 2022-19:16

Agreed 15 is likely the lowest I could go for now

By: Chronometer (aka yacomino) : November 7th, 2022-13:06
So I guess you never have watch fatigue!

It’s painful 😣

 By: Miranda : November 6th, 2022-15:55

Yes, definitely yes. ;)

 By: amanico : November 6th, 2022-15:57

Thank you...5 is really challenging and I know we discussed this topic of quantity multiple times...

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 6th, 2022-15:27
7 for 7 days a week or 12 for 1 each month, or 30 for each day of the month....I don't know too. I think 7-12 for each of the 4 brands I like to collect will be somewhat a good maximum.

This is a truly superb collection!

 By: mrds : November 6th, 2022-12:28
No clue how this could be bettered, dear Raymond. I am also in the process of focusing my collection and my experience so far is actually very good. At first it’s quite painful because as in your case, there are no weak pieces to let go without regrets. B...

You said it very well, Daniel...

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 6th, 2022-15:30
It is not like I had not let go of my earlier watches before...I consolidated a bunch of my early years collection, Corums, Maurice Lacroix, Tag Heuers to trade for a better watch. I am moving to the same direction as you too. Thanks and you too, enjoy th...

Nice post, and splendid group shot of a small and rather fine part of your collection! ;)

 By: KCLQMULKU : November 6th, 2022-12:33
I don't think I would let go of any of the watches in your shot. I just cannot, and even when coerced! It's perfect, and as a few had already commented, they are a magical collection in itself.

There is a nice quote "Begin with the end in mind" from 7 habits of highly effective people...

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 6th, 2022-15:33
I think we started by not focusing and just trying to get to every new releases and/or always searching for the next one. I need to remind myself constantly but I know I am close to keeping my current collection permanent add filling up few voids, then st...

Your collection is so amazing that I am not sure I would be able to let go any of them! You clearly choose them well my friend

By: Chronometer (aka yacomino) : November 6th, 2022-12:35
But In general if I don’t wear and don’t find joy wearing a piece after a while I tend to let it go

Appreciate your kind words my friend...I wear them with some more than others due to the importance and occasion...

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 6th, 2022-15:36
Good to know and there maybe a few that I think will fall into this category. Thanks for the advice.

Great collection

By: Jari from Finland : November 7th, 2022-19:24
But to be honest they don't have a lot of difference as to comes Patek, Lange and Omega if their appearance were the only factor. Finishing of the movements are naturally another thing.

Multiple factors, appearance, movement architectures, watch form, fit and functionality…

 By: Clueless_Collector : November 7th, 2022-19:53
Plus some complex brain thinking 😅
