We went to a tasting party last night

You know, the kind that highlights local restaurants in an attempt to get more exposure with the dining-out crowds? This is an annual deal at the SDYC and featured about 30 eateries (and drinking establishments).

We arrived just as the setup was complete... the food was hot and the lines were non-existent.

Crowds soon followed, as did the sunset.

The booths were all very well organized, and there was almost no waiting for your bite or two.

The Bali Hai Mai Tai Cocktails were lethal so I drank lots of water between.

These were little meatballs of Wagyu beef wrapped in bacon on home-made pickles. The Eden Mill Distillery at St. Andrews a new business making whisky and gin. In a move towards "sustainability" they mow the gorse bushes around the golf fairways and use the trimmings for the botanicals in the gin. Our ladies loved the gin and I like the whisky a lot, especially since they gave me the little glass.

Three different booths featured giant scallops (they're not cheap!). This is one on micro-greens but my favorite was on creamy polenta.

The pastries were awesome and the best part was the bakery brought more than they could give away (a bite at a time)

so my wife asked for this beautiful loaf of Kalamata olive bread and they said "Sure, take it home!"

Highlight of the evening - we are sitting at a table with random strangers of assorted ages, only thing in common is either members of the yacht club or friends of members (us). At our table or standing around it, we discovered that six of us all graduated from the same college (which is no longer in operation). The lady across the table was the eldest, I was the youngest of the group.

The watch?

The lady across the table graduated in 1962 (first of us) and I graduated in 1973 (last one) then the school moved to another campus and different administration (from LA) moved in. Our original outfit continued for a few more years in another location 15...
