Went to a party, ate some food, drank some wine, had a good time!

We can all say that, I suppose. And we compared and discussed watches, while the children ran around like little wild animals.

But rarely does the party involve the combinations of food and wine that last Saturday's host offered for our enjoyment.

There was a chef in the house, doing all the hard work, while we men and ladies of leisure contented ourselves with investigating the work of many vintners, fishermen and farmers...

We started with Champagne.

The chef put opened 3 dozen oysters, a platter of shrimp, and assembled many rows of sushi.
Sorry for missing the presentation of the oysters and shrimp -- I was busy elbowing my way to the counter.
The children got raspberries and strawberries rather than seafood.

This view just about sums up the end of my plate, then the uni came out!

By that time we had shifted to a Viognier from France.

And a Reisling from Germany to complement our Glashutte Original moonphase big date watch pairing.

The chef then presented us with plates of crab cake (topped with salmon roe) on fresh salad

Our "sommelier" (one of the guests) brought out his favorite Australian chardonnay to get us through the crab cakes and the inevitable letdown / lull between courses.

The conversation had heated up when suddenly a red appeared on the table and we wondered why interrupt the flow of seafood/whites?
We were transported back from Oz to France.

The final entree appeared -- a bacon-wrapped filet of beef topped by a lamb chop on top of lots of tasty things

I was revolving my plate to see what was underneath the grilled meat, but the light was inadequate,

when the bottle of Italian Barolo appeared.

We finished with a plate containing ice cream, poached pear, mint leaves and some fresh berries.

A small bottle of delicious desert wine came along to conclude the beverage courses (there was still and sparkling water, in case you are worried ...).

I give great thanks to my watch/wine/food buddy who put this on and thought to invite (lucky) us. Cheers!
