Return to Alinea…

Jul 23, 2021,20:32 PM

Following me and my son’s frantic multi screen button pressing to secure an online reservation, we had an opportunity to go to Alinea in Chicago, and experience the classic prix fixe menu with wine pairing.

It was certainly an indulgence that can be the cost of some fine watches, but after nearly two years of pandemic we figured this makes up reasonably for missed events and dinners. I’m a firm believer of spending for building lifelong memories, and this experience did not disappoint at all.

In preparation of the many course meal with wine pairing, my wife and I decided to completely skip lunch to ensure we would get a proper taste of all of the incredible courses.

We tried to do our best to take photos of the experience - hope you enjoy!

Cheers
Peter

Expanding the sensory experience beyond just smell and taste just makes me appreciate the incredible talent these chefs possess. Edible art for sure… Peter

That is quite the experience!

Yes indeed…

And even more mind blowing given the last two years eating primarily at home and takeaway. Cheers, Peter

That’s a dream come true!

I would take that over an Omega any day! The memories alone are worth it. As a restaurant owner I know the challenges of coming out with truest great food consistently, what Alinea are doing is nothing short of a miracle. Something to inspire to

Yes the memory is priceless…

And while there are certainly great experiences that can be had with many watches, there are additional neurons firing in multiple dimensions when you experience haute cuisine. Would love to see more photos of your fine restaurants! Certainly pairing well...

Agreed on all your points

Haute cuisine is certainly as rewarding as haute horology or any other art form. My restaurant was opened during COVID and we are short on manpower but I hope to continue to elevate our offerings. We are light years away from Alinea though, that is truly ...

Count me in!!

Very inspiring and impressive that you can connect your haute hologerie with haute cuisine. Cheers, Peter

What was the damage for this dinner...?

 By: patrick_y : July 23rd, 2021-21:37
What was the damage for this dinner? And did the Chateau Haut Brion 2013 pair nicely? Haut-Brion is more of a Left Bank producer, which is planted with more Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, so it's unusual to see a Merlot blend.

It was around 2k USD and that included wine pairing…

A pretty expensive meal by any standard - but the return on memory and lifetime meaning so much more I am an absolute caveman when it comes to my wine palate - but I recall this to be certainly more Merlot with some tobacco and leather accents - pairing q...

Around $2K per person? Or for two persons?

Either way, that's a wonderful looking dinner! Thank you for letting us live vicariously! Not all of us can make it to Chicago!

Total for two people…

 By: pfang56 : July 24th, 2021-22:26
Maybe one day? Cheers, Peter

One day!

I'm getting a little tired of French Laundry (I say this in jest). Might have to go the extra mile to Chicago!

Exqusite experience...

great cuisine, and a stellar and interesting lineup of matching wines!

Appreciate the feedback…

Definitely worth the experience. Upon reviewing the wines post-hoc I realized how equally exquisite some of the wines were to the dishes. Sometimes the variety is as good as getting two bottles for the evening! Cheers, Peter

Thanks for posting and sharing!

They custom pair each course with unique bespoke dishes - as you can see in one of the courses the glass crabs were selected and made specifically for the course. Just another level of fine art - much to the inspiration of French cuisine I’m sure Cheers P...

Hehehe... Probably. :)

I remember my meal at alinea about 10 years ago My first gastronomic molecular experience Is chef achatz still running the kitchen Btw last visit to Chicago in 2018 went to alinea’s sister - which was a cocktail bar Still a brilliant experience Julian

Awesome…

I remember the first time as well, when they had the edible balloons and a trapeze - and this trip was different. It equally exciting! Chef Achatz still runs the kitchen, but that day he left before our final course was served (we had second seating). Wit...
