A youthful Montebello that gave great pleasure
a few nights ago
after decanting for about two hours, its bouquet of blackcurrants and some red fruits was amply supported by a full bodied palate of mature fruits with supple but unintrusive tannins. There was just a hint of secondary flavours of some cedar and tobacco notes an hour or so into its consumption....lots of life ,just into its drinking window ,with dare i say,a further twenty years of enjoyment to come.

It complemented the Prime Rib on the wagon flawlessly

The starters of substantial grilled octopus and foie gras were tasty and well lubricated by a simple but light soave classico

The only fly in the ointment of this repast was a slightly oxidised bottle of corton charlemagne which had been well stored horizontally for the better part of fifteen years....only to be confined to the garbage heap
Such is the vagaraies of wine consumption and collection

However, despite the disappointment,it was an enjoyable evening
