Elegante 40 - When I never considered quartz
By: rnaden : June 8th, 2020-19:23
Quartz watches are “not right” for purists, at least that’s what’s been ingrained in my mind for the longest time, and it’s frowned on by many others who have been collecting for a long time. I admit that I never bothered with quartz, even with my love fo...
Thank you!

The elusive “Exit Watch” - at this point of time, I’m actually wishing that there is such a thing. I find myself getting tired of the constant re-editions and marketing bullshit and find myself sticking to wearing just one watch for weeks, and even months...
You need to have more faith in me, my friend ;-)
By: rnaden : June 8th, 2020-23:24
In the meantime, I’m enjoying this one - and I’m pretty certain that I will be for a long time to come. I seldom get this feeling on day 2 of owning a watch, and the only three that has generated this feeling are still with me after all this while.
I am happy for you Richard!

I like to think almost all my current watches give me a similar feeling and I look forward to seeing the FP Journe at our next GTG!
Considering where it just came from....

I’ll still humour you and bring it along! ;-) On a more serious note - that feeling doesn’t hit me often, and it shows as the watches either don’t get worn or eventually get sold or traded.
One cannot put a value

on a watch that makes you feel a bit special. And more importantly is that the watch makes you feel extra special not just when you first purchase it but months and years later. I too have sold many that felt that they just did not belong. And as you can ...
I was wrong for a long time

There are great quartz watches out there which could equate the joy of mechanicals, though not many, I’d say. This is definitely one I think can hold its own.
Thanks.

Looking forward to seeing you add this one to your already very impressive collection.
Yes, a true quartz with a battery
By: rnaden : June 9th, 2020-07:25
And you’re right. The time stops if the watch is idle for 30 minutes and resumes when picked up. A computer keeps track of time during the period when the hands stand still. As for the spring drive, fully aware of how great it is and I’ve toyed with the i...

Makes for a very light and comfortable watch.
Congrats on your fantastic acquisition!!

You made a wonderful choice. And quartz watches are absolutely right for some of us! The movement inside the middle watch is arguably where quartz started for the European watch industry. It contains the Beta 21 movement, which was a collaboration of over...
Great input to this watch.
By: ChristianDK : June 9th, 2020-13:13
This pushes the concept of what a quartz watch can be and as you say is a distant ancestor to the early innovative quartz watches.
I suppose “a few” is quite an understatement. LOL!
By: rnaden : June 9th, 2020-23:41
I wouldn’t want a clear case back to see the ancestor version of this movement, as great as it may work. Thanks for the history on the movements and origins. Of the three samples you have in the picture, I’ve only seen the Marine Chronometer in the metal....

Looks incredible on your wrist

Congrats again Richard! I love the Elegante and it is worthy enough to be an exit piece. Beautiful case, beautiful size, extremely legible, beautiful lume, beautiful strap and extremely comfortable on the wrist. And i just realise I typed the word “beauti...
Beautiful!

Looks beautiful on your wrist! If I may ask what’s your wrist size? I have a smaller wrist and deciding between the 40 and the 48
Not big....6.75 inches

The 40 fits me much better. Good luck on your decision and looking forward to seeing pictures of your new watch
