I broke my own rule in buying a 5496P and couldn’t be happier! In buying Pateks, I generally adhere to the following rule:
I must love the watch, it must be relatively difficult to obtain or be rare, and it must have IMHO a “good future” (whatever that means?). This watch ticks the first box to an extreme degree. On the other hand it is relatively easy to obtain at least compared to say 5711. Rare? - only if one equates rarity with a general lack of popularity and desire. “Good future” - I think this is very unlikely unless it has a relatively short run, low sales and somehow many years from now people start to love it, eg 5020. The P is already on its third dial iteration. This reminds me of 5270 where Patek keeps changing the dial in the hope of generating interest. So I bought it for the purest and simplest of reasons - I love the watch.
I wonder if anyone else out there actually likes this watch? Or possibly even owns one and if so with which dial?

The 5496P is a very under-appreciated watch at the moment, but it will become a classic after it is discontinued.
This watch has...
...amazing presence in person. The tiny, applied numbers are very special. My only concern is that it's just a bit too thick. Perhaps a 240 transplant? Even so, I am tempted. It's very nice...enjoy!

Awesome acquisition!!! Always follow your first rule that you must love the timepiece, everything else becomes irrelevant. Definitely a better choice than the 5711. Well done.
Its a beautiful watch
and if you can buy without worrying about resale value all the better. You can wear and enjoy without worrying about the smallest mark. Not all things make financial sense but are well worth it.

Super watch! I always wondered why retrograde perps seems to be less popular. I really like the retrograde; it represents a complication within a complication and hence takes the perpetual calendar to the next level. Excellent pickup!

Thank you for your extremely kind remarks. I liked the honey dial quite a bit, but prefer the current dial with the raised gold date numerals.
Now if the honey dial had been salmon ..... Didn’t know about the video. Thanks for mentioning it. I will try to find and watch it.
