It is the time of the year to come back to your horological journey.
Here, it is not only about what you got, what you let go, but also, and maybe more interesting, what you discovered.
I play first:
1/ Discoveries:
- Montblanc P 10 Monopusher.
I belong to this category of guys who are a bit embarassed by a name on the dial, being a famous one, or a name which had no legitimacy in Horology.
But here, we have, I think, a revelation. What a watch!
All I wanted in a Chronograph is here: A superb dial, a nice case, and an awesome movement. Cherry on the cake, the Monopusher, which is something I appreciate a lot when it is coaxial.
Did I mention that it is a Purist piece, a watch to support our Community? That is a Plus, in my heart.
- Kari Voutilianen:
The Observatory, of course, or this latest offer, the Twenty-8:
The Epitome of the Fine watchmaking, in my book.
- Longines:
Here, no modern but so many Vintage I rediscovered!
Among them, a monster, a holy grail, the Black dialed 13 ZN:
One of the nicest, if not THE nicest Vintage Chronograph!
This selection of Big Pilots is also haunting me:
- Breguet:
These Military Type XX are certainly to be mentionned, here:
Timeless beauties with a strong character...
- AP:
A Classic, revisited ala Purist way, the P 10, and its cool blend of Tantalum and stainless steel, and its personalized engraved rotor, just to remind that it was born for a superb occasion, the IGOTT II.
- GP:
It is a long time love story in my heart, but it was the first re discovery of this year, at the SIHH, the Tourbillon with 3 Gold Bridges:
- JLC:
It was the 80th birthday of the Reverso, it was also the " Tribute Year " with two great pieces, two ways of revisiting the Past, one faithful, the DSA, one keeping the spirit of an inconic watch, the TT R 1931:
The 2 winners, in my book:
2/ The Additions:
- Rolex:
Only one, this year, but what a piece...
It took me a long time ( one year ) to fund it and to do my homework on this watch, but it was worth it.
The Mother, the Queen of all Rolex GMTs, the 6542.
A captivating dial.
- JLC:
Well, I got several, here, but two are most important than others as they are friendship watches.
The Tribute To Polaris 65 and the Original Polaris 65.
One I had to replace it, the other, I hunted it for so many years!
Two very dear watches to my heart, by all meanings.
- Breitling:
One of these surprises of the year, a watch I desperately hunted for several years, which I found just before summer.
100% pleasure on this very original Diving watch from the 50ies.
- Omega:
One I had to replace... Well, to upgrade, as I had a lovely CK 14755, then I own a superb CK 2913.
One of the most elegant diving watch from the 50ies, in my book.
- GP.
I owned up to 3 GP watches, then sold them.
One I regretted the most is certainly the Vintage 45 Chrono.
I just had to get it, which is now done, which is important for me, because I love the brand, and I admire the watch.
Elegance, originality, vintage look, charm, sensuality, this watc has a lot of assets.
3/ The Gatherings:
What can I say? This year was unique with some very special moments.
- London:
Some guys are still trying to recover, obviously:
A small bunch of excellent friends who decided to meet, just for the pleasure of a lunch, on a crazy day.
- Las Vegas / Los Angeles:
Madness at its top, where brands and watch lovers are gathering, in a superb place.
The biggest GTG, ever, ( perfectly ) organized:
Unbelievable and unforgettable...
- Paris:
A year full of meetings, with old and new friends coming from all over the world, to share a coffee, a lunch or a dinner, just for the pleasure to live, together, some exquisite hours.... An event whcih became a Tradition, for our Purist Comunity.
- Belgium:
Madness and friendship, during this superb week end at Filip's house:
So, a quite good year, to say all, with some important and lovely watches added in the collection, and most important, intense moments lived and shared between people whose friendship turned from virtuality to reality.
There is no other place like PuristSPro!
Let 's now see your own horological journey, this year...
Best,
Nicolas. This message has been edited by amanico on 2012-01-01 03:41:56
