You do not see that Tortue with the 8-day JLC movement very often! And it looks (and sounds) like you've been getting thorough enjoyment out of that wonderful watch!
I have the original (gold) screw bars in a little baggie now in the Cartier box, and I'm just using regular spring bars in it now. Should allow me to keep changing straps regularly while keeping the watch out of the grubby hands of the boutique!

The Tortue and the Hare (and a question)
By: blau : September 11th, 2019-14:55
I am the very lucky new owner of this amazing Cartier (my first Cartier). It was bought on an impulse--which is not my usual way. I'm usually slow, like a tortoise, in choosing a watch, but I tried this one on and, quick as a jackrabbit, that was it: I bo...
Very nice

i have come close several times to pulling the trigger on this piece. The back story is also quite nice ๐
Yes, exactly.

I had the shop change the strap to the one pictured here when I bought it.
I would like to make two suggestions
By: mpg13 : September 11th, 2019-15:48
First if you want to change the strap change it to something you like long term. Frequent disassembly and reassembly of soft screws and or a soft case is a bad idea. Second make sure the watchmaker who does it for you has no problem shaping a screwdriver ...
Thanks, that's helpful.

That probably means I should stick with this strap for a while--I like the combo a lot. I thought it might be fun to switch it between this lighter brown ostrich and a darker brown alligator, but if I'm going to stick with one for a while, the right one i...
Thanks so much!

I really appreciate everyone's enthusiasm (and I VERY MUCH share it)
The screws are 18K, have it done at Cartier or a good AD

Congratulations the Tortue and especially this size Mono Poussoir is a fantastic watch. Enjoy your watch and when the time comes that it needs service, make sure to go to an excellent watchmaker or the Cartier BTQ. GEO
Thanks for letting me know!

Fortunately I live near both a Cartier Boutique and an excellent independent watchmaker. To be honest, I have more trust in the watchmaker than I do in the boutique.
take the time

Hasitate. I am the same. I buy never on impuls. Study the lugs if i can change straps by myself. I study the movement. Study the price. Learning about a brand. I own no Cartier, but i saw serveral Cartiers who are nice to see. This model the Santos 100XL ...
Congrats an absolute marvel quite underrated though +

I don't know how it looks like at the screws level, but if you like changing you could maybe replace the screws (and keep them aside !) by regular spring bars in order to change more easily and often ? Don't hit me I don't know whether it is feasible or n...
Congrats!

That is a beautiful and very unique piece. So what sort of screwdrivers would jewellers use for gold screws? BW, Chi Kai
Congrats !

I have personally changed the straps on my Tortue a couple of times and never wondered what material the screws are made of. I stopped changing my straps lately because when I asked the boutique for new screws, they insisted on taking my watch in (not for...

Terrifying!

As you might see upthread, I left that to a professional, and now use a set of regular spring bars in place of the gold screwed bars.
Thatโs good advice!

Will definitely replace them with spring bars when I find someone who can remove the bars. Many thanks
