Breguet

Aeronavale vs. Transatlantique

I am considering to buy a type XX, a watch i have been setting an eye on already for a few years.  it would be my first Breguet, but it will certainly not be the last one.!  A few issues i would like to have the comments of the Breguet experts here on the forum:

I always assumed that the 3820 transatlantique is just the 3800 aeronavale with a date, but i visited a dealer a few days ago and noticed:

the 3820 has a shiny black dial vs. a matt dial on the 3800 the 3820 has polished steel hands vs. white laqured hands on the 3800
  • there are small polished steel indexes on the 3820 while the 3800 has a printed dial "only"

This seems a good example that Breguet is not taking the easy path when introducing declinations of a watch.

Personally, i liked the shiny black dial of the 3820 better. on the other hand, i prefer the non-date version of the 3800. It is cleaner and closer to the orignal of the 1950's.  I also like the steel bracelet, if feels great but the mark up to the leather strap is steep. (over 1000 USD)

What is your opinon?

A few more questions to the experts:

I was offered by a dealer of used watches a new-old stock Typ XX which looks very good - complete incl. box and papers, but the papers are not stamped and they cant tell me when the watch was produced or sold. I noticed however that the box is the wing-shaped box they used to make a few years back. As far as i know the currenty type XX are delivered in a wooden box. Does anybody know when Breguet stopped providing the wing-shaped alu boxes? or can i find out the production date by the serial number?

Would you have any concerns buying a new-old stock type XX - assuming that it has been sitting in the box unused for a few years? Any problems known with type XX from the early 2000's?

A lot of questions i raise here on my first post......anyway, i am looking foward to read your comments!

Cheers,

Stefan
