5817 Winding Problem

Sep 24, 2009,19:17 PM

Dear Jack: I too had a problem with my 5817, but thankfully my story has a happy ending.  A few years ago, shortly after the 5817 came out, I purchased one from an AD in Miami, FL.  After a couple of days I noticed that the watch would stop.  I tried manually winding it, and various other things, but within a week or so I knew I had a big problem.  So I took the watch back to my AD and they sent it in for repair.  About three months later the watch came back and I was told that Breguet had replace the entire winding mechansim or something to that effect.  Fortunately, what ever repairs were made seem to have worked because the watch keeps fabulous time.  I have never had that problem again, and I really love this particular watch.  I can only imagine how frustrated you must feel, but honestly I think it is simply the luck of the draw as to experiencing a problem.  I mean you can be a collector of a certain brand and own 5 or 6 watches and not have a lick of trouble, and someone else could make their first purchase and have a whole heap of problems.  I really see no rhyme or reason to it.  However, I am sorry for your problem, and I do hope Breguet can fix it for you.

hi Tassos, Thank you for your reply my cyber friend. Yes, the AD wrote on the service request that the problem was a sticking rotor. I am not sure but I think the AD is trying to organize some serious rectification as it is a Breguet.... and I have also b...

Hi MW, Thanks for your reply. I am sure they will. Let's face it.... if Breguet can't get it right..... then what future do they, the industry... or us with our passion, have. It seems that Martin Braun have done the right thing..... More about that latte...

sorry to hear about this- it seems that you are quite unlucky about this watch. I would hope that Breguet fixes it and renews your warranty as a courtesy- you should really point this out to them or rather demand it. Please let us know what happens Cheers

best wishes

Hi Jack, As others, I am sorry to hear about your trouble. I have myself a Marine chronograph, the big sister of your Marine big date. The purchase is relatively recent, so the data point may not speak for much. Accuracy is not as good as yours (around +5...

Hi john, I agree that the 5817 model and it's variations are a great watch. I particularly agree with your comments about classical and style. As mentioned, of all my watches, this is my pick, and I especially like the generous deployment clasp which adds...

Sorry to that your 5817 has failed again. Hope Breguet get it fixed this time! As you may recall, I had my 5707 sent for repair. The hour hand didn't "click" when adjusting it for setting the date. I finally got the watch back earlier this month after 10+...

Thanks for your reply.... and openness. There seems a hesitancy by owners of high end watches to talk about problems they experience with their watch when things go wrong. Almost like buyers remorse..... I know of two owners of high end watches who regula...
