The car was donated to the local Auto Museum by a widow. They have to sell it for the best possible price so she can claim a tax deduction and they get operating funds.
Since my pal who is selling the car for the museum and I have known each other and worked together for decades, we have concluded that it would not be an arm’s length transaction, and thus not legal according to the IRS.
However, maybe in a couple months if it failed to sell to anyone else... But by then I will have come to my senses anyway 🙁.
