The design is definitely polarizing.
I have a Tesla Model 3 in the garage (which is their smaller model) and it is the ugliest car I've ever owned. I thought I'd get used to it - but 5+ years later I'm still shuddering every time I see that car in the garage. My previous cars were Mercedes and BMWs and were reasonably attractive cars - this Tesla has a "duck bill platypus front end" in my eyes. The new Tesla Model 3 looks so much better! Musk is also a polarizing figure - but if I were to focus on the product, the actual Tesla car, I'd say the Tesla car isn't too bad.
The convenience of charging at home, the excellent user interface of the car, the ultra-low cost of ownership, the nearly total lack of maintenance, and the safety of the car makes the car a very practical car to live with! My petrol car also consumes A LOT of petrol - 16 liters per 100km or around 16 miles per US Gallon, and is very costly to run. The Tesla has reasonably good handling (although not good handling at the limit since the tires are eco-tires), terrible brakes (I've driven bicycles with better brakes), and very responsive acceleration. The Tesla Model 3 is also the CHEAPEST CAR in the world that I can think of that has a DOUBLE WISHBONE SUSPENSION. The architecture of the Tesla is VERY GOOD. I'm a very mechanically qualitative person and most cars (including almost all Porsche 911s and Boxster/Caymans) have the MacPherson Strut suspension - a very basic suspension set up. Almost all cars in this price category lack a double wishbone suspension set up. The main advantage of the double wishbone is that it gives the car more tire grip in both on camber and off camber corners. Which is why every expensive car in the world (Rolls Royce, Bentley, Maserati, Porsche Sedans, Porsche SUVs, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Lotus, Bugatti) has double wishbone with the unusual exception for Porsche's 911 and Boxster/Cayman.

Somehow, I still bought one of these hideous looking machines since the car was very safe and I don't like going to the petrol station. And considering the new one looks so much better - I'd buy another Tesla again.

Friend is a repo guy for many years, they are VERY busy right now. Defaults are high, and normal consumer car sales are troublesome.
of course Ferrari, Rolls, and Bugatti sales are best ever. A race to the bottom. Am sure certain timepiece brands are feeling it, as credit default in the USA is quite high at the moment.

The very recent, relatively alarming, events certainly have nothing to do with the vehicle itself. If anything, it may have been chosen for its perceived exterior durability. Good for Elon, free money, as if he's in dire need of more $$$ ☺️....

Totally. I have zero sympathy for these folks. I know someone that had two and planned to sell the earlier allocation and take the later one for themselves.
And for the people that did actually buy the car expecting a big pay day and are now massively underwater, well, for some folks education is more expensive than others. Not that I was in the market for a tesla, but your Daytona reference brought the rage ...
It's simple... The speculators are taking a risk.
Most of the time the speculators win and win big. And sometimes the speculators lose and lose small. Ratio-wise $2500 is not a difficult pill to swallow for someone looking to buy an $80,000 to $100,000 asset and to make money off that asset at one point ...

That is pretty hideous!
I drove the Mercedes today. It's much better designed than the Tesla - especially the front of the car. The Mercedes is also clean, the Tesla is dirty from recent rains. Will switch back to the Tesla a day or two before it starts raining.
