Stick it to me, baby

I think I have had about 40 stick shift cars. I don't have pictures of all of them, but here are a few. I can drive an automatic, but it's not the same to me

I often forget this MG TD

and this POS Triumph Herald which I owned from a Saturday to the following Tuesday before unloading it. Whew!

Citroen Visa in England

My black BX TZD

Replaced by Citroen with this red one due to some warranty issues

My company car VW Golf GTi 16V on the track at Silverstone (after some warm-up laps & coaching with Tiff Needel)

and some French place... smile

Citroen Mehari

Citroen 2CV 4x4

Citroen Van from Argentina originally

Citroen van from Belgium getting a new exchange transmission (needs another one pretty soon, or some bearings)

Two of my "regular" 2CVs

RHD made in England 2CV

Corvair Corsa convertible

Yeah Baby!

Chevy II / Nova (no go)

Olds 442 with 4 on the floor and Jeepster Commando 4spd dual range 4x4

Corvair Rampside pickup (before restoration)

Afterwards

Honda Insight

Saab Sonnet

the rest of it (I don't have good pictures of it assembled)

My first V-Dub, in the summer of love

Apparently my first car (subliminal programming)

Shifter or Paddle..? Which one do you prefer?

real deal. ...

Shifter for sure

The pool of options for my next car is shrinking fast... only BMW and Porsche seem to stay committed to the manual shifting

Shifter for me [nt]

I am a man

Shifter

I agree, isn't it crazy what the early 2000 Ferrari's are going for now?

 By: doubleup : August 26th, 2020-13:26
I think they were the 612 or 599's that you could once get used for low $100K and are now over $500K simply because they have a shifter? Obviously a lot of people want and like the old 6 speed. Now the latest hyped hyper car has one the T 50

Seriously? Where do you see manual 12-cylinder models from that era going for more than $500k?

If that's the case, it's insane.

Being a mechanical man, absolutely LOVE your shifter. This is your Alfa?

And being a mechanical man, both my two and four wheels are manual ...

This is the 911...... [nt]

In any city you are right....

On a Sunday morning as the sun rises across a winding road ... the manual has a connection with the driver that is difficult to explain.

Not even close - have you even driven a real manual with 3 pedals?

By: India Whiskey Charlie : August 20th, 2020-07:45
In terms of connection with the road and/or driver, the difference is night and day. But, if you actually believe what you said above, I respect that opinion. 😉

What is wrong with being a little romantic

Sometimes, I like to dance a little under the dash Just remember Ayrton's white socks... The day I buy an automatic, I will die a little inside

Paddle!

 By: penfriend : August 18th, 2020-05:41
you are much quicker on the track with paddles and a smart gearbox for the city: automatic for the old-timer and youngster: shifter because there never was a real choice at that time

Three pedals, a stick and a ball

...

You all know where I stand on this one . . .
