Some nice french Convertibles from the Past.

Some french cars were true nice convertibles. I found these pictures on the Argus Site, who I have to credit for them.

Let's see what we have.

The most famous were:

- From Peugeot,

The lovely 204:

The 504, which was one of my favorite;

And the 205 CTI, which was veeery popular in France.

- From Citroen, 2 legends,

The DS 21 " Chapron ":

And one of the finest, the SM by Chapron:

Renault was not bad at that game, with the Floride:

And the Fregate.

- Facel Vega made the Facellia, in the early 60's:

And what about the most prestigious, the Bugatti 101 Type from the early 50's:

An exotic ( so exotic that I didn't know it! ) Gregoire Sport from 1958:

And of course, I couldn't end without mentioning two Alpine, the A 108,

And the famous A 110:

Of course there were many others which would have deserved a mention, but if you have them in mind, feel free to share them!

Best,

Nicolas

Renault Espace F1 in the background... www.youtube.com I love those common cars transformed by an F1 heart, like the Alfa 164 some years earlier (1988 with Riccardo Patrese) www.youtube.com As to French convertibles, IMO the queen is clear...

But how good! [nt]

All superb, all charming, all very attracting but if I could pick just one it would be the SM 😍🤩😍🤩🤪 (or alternatively the DS)

great post!

Difficult to beat the timeless elegance of the DS & the SM, but the 304 and 306 cab were not bad !

With the exception of a few privileged owners, all are and should stay in our cherished memories...

considering the restoration costs it is better to forget about them or buy posters ;-) You had me travel backward... The smell of oils and gasoline, often floating directions, the rebounds of gravel all the way up my spine, the ignition and carburetor set...

That DS “Chapron”

is quite something special. Very beautiful car. Little anecdote: I once had a Fench teacher, must have been in 1976/1977, a very good looking lady and though Dutch, she would have made a fine Française (dark brown hair, brown eyes etc.) Any way, I degress...

I can witness that. ;) [nt]

But if I were to choose one, I’d go for the 205 CTI. She’d be a great runabout both in town and a weekend drive to the vineyards 😘

A few more fun ones, sourced from the internet

I knew that a few period Facel Vega conversions were around: And there's the Venturi Transcup from the 1990s And the pioneering pre-war retractable hardtop Peugeot 402 Eclipse Decapotable ...

Beautiful cars on this thread.
