I have fond memopries of my fellow student's Mini

Which we made some nice tours with:
Especially our smuggling tours to Germany! Salzburg is close to the German-Austrian border, and back then, many things, including Single Malt whisky, was a lot cheaper in Germany than in Austria. However, tax regulations limited the tax-free import to a value of as little as 11 Euros per person. So the temptation to import the one or other bottle without declaring it was large. The Mini had these perfectly dimensioned empty spaces above the rear wheel houses, concealed by covers from stiff and black cardboard, they were great for taking up a .70cl bottle each. However, the customs never took us seriously, when we approached the lanes, four guys stuffed into the tiny car, trying to look as harmless as possible.
