Formula E Impressions

Jul 18, 2022,12:27 PM

So I had almost the same access that you get with press credentials…first off as someone who has attended many F1 races I could not believe how QUIET these cars are. To be this close in F1 required actual headphone sound dampening and with E you don’t need anything! I think they actually amplify the sound for TV. The rules were convoluted and hard to follow at the race. As there is no way to pit the cars it’s kind of like watching heats as opposed to a full 70 lap race. The venue was hot and a bit rinky dink compared to F1 (I expected that) but they did have a VIP paddock. It was a very short track (1 km less than Monaco?) which was good and bad. It was almost walkable from the Marina (which was 1st class) and the entrance line was well managed and efficient.

Agreed, Formula E has a soundtrack that is a bit... (imho) of a letdown. Agree the rules/etc are a bit unique, and personally think they need to overlay Mario Brothers 'Gold Coins' or some such for the power / pass bits (in other words, augmented reality ...

Yes many challenges but I think we all know that this is where it’s going🤷🏻‍♂️

I too lament the end of the ICE era…this post is more of an experience as opposed to a preference…

My wife said they sound like old-time slot cars

Guess the future is no drivers and it's all optimized for virtual racing. Maybe that will, eventually, lead to F1 becoming an eSport?

Brooklyn NYC…

It’s remarkable how consistent the lap times are because there is no change in fuel weight…

Plus One 👍

The sound, the smell, the vibration=engulfing excitement

How many years do you think it will be before F1 goes 100% EV?…

As 100% EV on the worlds roads are IMO definitely on the way…

Or synthetic fuel.

Disagree, without some major improvements in infrastructure and cost,

not to mention consumer preference. Unless of course the government is successful in shoving it down our collective throat.

Still disagree. I think a lot of auto manufacturers (and their shareholders) are going to regret their outsized investments in EV technology.

Even a cursory analysis reveals that the numbers don’t work barring government mandates. What numbers? Cost and availability of raw materials required to increase the scale of EV manufacturing to match that of internal combustion engines, cost of and time...

Merci, mon ami!

I do support electrification for public and fleet but IMHO the system must neither penalize nor discriminate peoples choice of car, hobby (vintage, mod &Sport) and especially sport competition car in anyway.

Excellently put!
