Does anyone here play the custom, vanity, personalized number plate game?

I've wasted more money than I should have, but I just can't help myself...

These are the plates I have taken off cars I've sold (or never mounted on the front). In addition to this I have ELAN, TREE CV, 3CVVAN and I think that's all at the moment. Except for PHIDI (I bought for my mom) all the rest have been on various cars I've owned.

GLASS'S is not because I wear them but because I worked there (it's an automotive publisher in the UK). I actually ordered it in California and took it to Weybridge and bolted onto the MD's Jaguar in the parking lot one day. Sadly he instantly figured out who did it, and ordered me to take it off so he wouldn't get cited for false plates.

Back in the day ~ 1990  ~ business was a lot of fun and we enjoyed life while at the same time making lots of money. The company was owned 1/2 by Lord Thomson of Fleet (Thomson Tours & Travel, Thomson Newspapers, now Thomson Reuters) and half by a private family in the UK. Now its part of the AutoVista Group which is too big and corporate and complex to mess with.

Alas, same thing happened to Autodata (another client)

and Haynes (ditto). Also Clymer, Chilton, Valley Forge, Sun Technicomm and a host of other automotive-related companies. Gads.

Build the company up, sell it, a few people get rich, a bunch get swapped like pawns to new bosses, and the game starts over again... Can't say I miss being in the thick of those sorts of things.

Oops, this was about number plates, wasn't it? Sorry, I digressed.

Mike

but it is fun to do. In my country we have no custom plates. They are strict overhere. When the police spot a car without correct number plates, the driver get a ticket. There was a time when people put a small number plate on their car, because the large...

India has a law that only government approved supplier can make and issue security number plate for the car in specific design. It's issued through the dealer. The allotment of number is through online government portal. Selected VIP numbers are auctioned...
