Back in the 70s when people first got the idea to customize vans....
which were previously just utility vehicles, I was working for a guy who also owned a company called Superior Coach I think it was. And he bought and sold hearses and ambulances.
In his back lot he had a few low milage trade in hearses, and I bought one. A 1957 Pontiac 371 cubic inch, if I remember correctly. So instead of customizing a van I drove this hearse. I bought a couple of old fur coats and put them in the back as a bed and installed an 8 track sound system and I was all set. I jacked it up a bit which was common at the time, put on headers, road pipes and 10 inch mag wheels. It had a red leather interior in the front and rear/burgundy velvet in the back. The only weird thing was it had no door locks.
Hey. It was a different time and I was wild and crazy.
