Here is what a real truck looks like.

 By: MichaelC : January 6th, 2024-19:35
2024 GMC Sierra AT4X 2500...that is indeed a mouthful. This monstrosity weighs almost 8000 LBs with a gas motor and almost 9000 with the Duramax Diesel and AEV package. This is a man's truck, not a futuristic grocery getter. You're looking at 12-18 MPG de...

Upset that the Cybertruck pulls better, eh? :) :) :)

The GMC is a cute truck though. www.youtube.com

The GMC is much too small for my needs.

I need a bigger bed for the bi-weekly Costco run. The Caterpillar 797F is adequate. ...

I had one of these...

 By: Gregineugene : January 6th, 2024-20:23
...it was surprisingly easy to park!

The 797 is indeed a Beast!!

 By: MichaelC : January 6th, 2024-20:25

The red truck is not mine. And your information is absolutely incorrect.

 By: MichaelC : January 6th, 2024-20:24
According to Tesla, Cybertruck has a payload of 2500 LBs and can pull 11,000 LBs. The truck in the photo has a payload of 3100 LBs and can tow 17,600 LBs. And it is just a gas 3/4 ton. Choose any 1 ton from GM, Ford, or Ram with a diesel, and the Cybertru...

?¿? I'm confused ¿?¿

 By: Gregineugene : January 6th, 2024-20:55
"The truck in the photo has a payload of 3100 LBs and can tow 17,600 LBs. And it is just a gas 3/4 ton." If it can payload 3100# why is it called a 3/4 ton truck?

Well, in the old days, the number did correlate to the payload capacity.

 By: MichaelC : January 6th, 2024-21:03
Over the years, trucks have become much more robust, but they stayed with the common "1/2 ton, 3/4" ton, 1 ton" names. GM and RAM use 1500, 2500, and 3500 designations, and Ford uses 150, 250, 350 (and these companies also make stronger trucks that contin...

Ahh....I see.

Thanks for the clarification

My pleasure :-)

 By: MichaelC : January 6th, 2024-21:11

Sure. And manufacturer specs are always accurate, right?

 By: BigFatPauli : January 6th, 2024-22:37
I would refer to the F-150 lighting having a 240 Mile EPA range but people were returning them because they could get 80 miles. The video shows real world tests. Again, like what you like, but reality is reality.

I read your reply ahead of a church service tonight.

 By: MichaelC : January 7th, 2024-02:05
God Bless you, BFP.

Correct, not mine. I have a 1/2 ton, but am moving back to a 3/4 ton soon.

 By: MichaelC : January 6th, 2024-20:38
I work in residential architecture, contracting, and natural stone. A single stone pallet is commonly 2500-3000 LBs. I did test drive the truck in the photo, it rides amazingly smooth given the suspension setup.

Visibility sure is easy :-)

My issue with these is as often being the other driver on what is effectively single lane country roads, there’s no space left for me.

 By: Jay (Eire) : January 6th, 2024-20:40
Not to mention in my sampling 100% of the drivers of these don’t give any space either. The wing mirrors alone are a hazard.

+1!

 By: amanico : January 6th, 2024-20:43

This really applies to all "full size" pickups.

 By: MichaelC : January 6th, 2024-20:48
My half town is exactly 1" less wide than the red truck in the photo. I don't like driving it in the city as the lanes are very tight. The mirrors are a requisite for towing. As much as I would love to own a slightly smaller truck like a Toyota Tundra, th...

I just wish I didn’t meet them on the nearby roads !

 By: Jay (Eire) : January 6th, 2024-20:53
Which are tighter than the city streets. I actually tried to convince my better half that we should buy a truck a few years ago. Not like this, and not for any real function. The “use case” was simply to better blend in. The choices around me are a truck ...

I hear you. Check the measurements on something like a RAM TRX or a Ford Raptor

 By: MichaelC : January 6th, 2024-20:58
They are even wider than common heavy duty pickups! And I see them everywhere in Colorado.

I drove in Verona last summer...

 By: MichaelC : January 6th, 2024-20:51
The rental car was a smallish 4 door BMW (I don't recall the model). We stayed 2 nights in the heart of the city. The space I had to back that car into through a gate... I feel if the car were even an inch bigger, I could not have done it! But when you ar...

"Walking city"

 By: MichaelC : January 6th, 2024-21:13
There is such a wonderful charm about walking around on tight cobblestone streets. America is so different. The cars we did see in European cities are commonly small and most have bumper scratches from being tapped by another car. It seems an accepted nor...

+1 You got it very well.

In a world with Electric on the get-go

Perhaps, but it will still take some time.

 By: MichaelC : January 7th, 2024-02:11
Heavy duty work trucks for civilians are not there yet. Not enough payload, not enough towing capacity, and definitely not enough range when hauling.

Not unlike....

What I drive in the urban wilderness of LA all the time.... ...

Beauty. I have driven trucks as my daily driver almost my whole life.

 By: MichaelC : January 7th, 2024-04:43
I could never be in anything else as my regular driver.

I totally get it.

 By: InHavenPro : January 7th, 2024-05:24
They have been the exclusive vehicle of choice for me for the past ten years. Just about to hit 10k flawless miles in this one, the only minor damage I sustained is predictably the driver side rearview mirror due to the size of the tow mirrors....... Othe...

Towing with our modern trucks is much easier than older days

 By: MichaelC : January 7th, 2024-15:25
The mirrors are a big reason why, but of course we need to be mindful if them. I have to always collapse mine in when backing into the garage. I always park on the outskirts of parking lots and walk where I need to go, but otherwise collapse them when I p...

Yes,

My insurance will cover half the cost, I'll pay my thousand dollar deductible. The parts to replace the unit themselves are $1,700 . I nicked an old commercial van's mirror on a narrow street where he should not have parked the way he was parked. He shoul...

These darn parts are too expensive.

 By: MichaelC : January 7th, 2024-20:40
I'm afraid they are all like that. Glad it will soon be fixed and back to normal.

It’s a very nice truck.

 By: Champthekid : January 7th, 2024-14:03
I take any opportunity to show my 2022 RAM TRX. I didn’t buy to tow or use for any of the usual reasons people buy pick-up trucks. For me it’s just a blast of a truck. 702 HP, 650 lbs feet of torque. The gas mileage sucks, but the smiles per mile are fant...

Wow!

 By: MiguelFlash : January 7th, 2024-14:25

Love the TRX!!

 By: MichaelC : January 7th, 2024-15:34
And would consider one except for the payload and towing abilities. Of course, the truck is not primarily designed for these tasks, and yet can still do them to a degree. I saw RAM is offering a final edition of the TRX with some new colors and interior o...

Agreed, Michael. Payload and

 By: Champthekid : January 7th, 2024-16:54
Towing is not very good. The final addition looked kind of cool. In the end the truck will be a 4 year run. I’m looking forward to see what RAM comes up with to replace it. Maybe a V6 twin turbo or something similar. I’d like to see a V8 small displacemen...

I find this TRX one of the more remarkable vehicles in recent years, if not ever.

 By: MichaelC : January 7th, 2024-18:24
If I had the means, I would 100% buy one as an extra vehicle. If it could be my daily driver and handle my "truck" needs, I would also buy one. But I just have to have a payload over 2800 LBs and the ability to tow up to 12k. Which was the reason for test...

That’s C8 Corvette acceleration!

Love the new Corvettes.

The Corvette E-ray does 0 -60 in 2.5 seconds. Now that’s gotta be exciting 😀.

Not really a big fan of these big things, but ...

 By: bimbeano : January 7th, 2024-19:03
... when you need it for your job (in your case) it makes a lot of sense. Where I live we see more and more 'big' pick-up truck but I guess not even half the people driving it, need it for it's capacities. If there's a V8 under the hood I can still unders...

They are indeed !

Just had a look at the GMC website ... I'm kinda tempted .... they do look cool tbh !

You have an admirable fleet!

 By: MichaelC : January 7th, 2024-20:48
I am definitely a lover of the V8 motor. Legendary in the US, powering trucks and high performance cars for many years. Most people who buy heavy duty trucks do buy them with large diesel motors. In the truck I pictured, the available Duramax Diesel produ...

I don't know a thing about trucks. When a friend of mine whom always bought sports cars bought a big GMC truck, they were shocked that they had to "level" the truck and it was quite the learning experience. But ALL I WANT TO KNOW IS... The CADILLAC you ha...

Must trucks are shipped from the factory with a rake towards the front

Safer handling unladen, and maintains a level stance with payload or towing. Nobody likes a saggy rear end! As for the Caddy, she has a special spot in a heated garage ...

Oh wow! That's a hilarious and very specific sign!

As she should have a special heated spot in the garage!

EV's will be in our future no doubt but for some tasks only 7 litres of ICE will do. In March we are embarking on our annual winter road trip to the north, heading for the festivals at Aklavik and Inuvik. Weather permitting we also hope to tag the Arctic ...

Full agreement. "Truck guys" get it.

Have a great trip in March!

I still wince

 By: Tick Talk : January 12th, 2024-15:57
at the story told recently by our M-B service manager of the Sprinter van that had to be trailered down from Inuvik because nobody could fix it, at a cost of $4,000 just for the tow!
