I am an owner of G63 from 2022 and will

not be switching to an electric version. I do not trust the electric technology of the Merc fornthe time being. I have had a lot of trouble with a mild hybrid battery in my GLS AMG G63 - and have no reason to believe a full electric would be more reliable. Speaking about the model year 2025 G-Wagen, for me they ruined it by adding the mild hybrid system. And also - they removed the IWC physical clock - a total no go smile)

New Mercedes Benz G-Class EV Announced

 By: patrick_y : April 24th, 2024-03:14
Introducing the Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology. Some quick stats... 580 horsepower. 879 pound feet of torque (that's around 1200 newton meters of torque) 4 motors Each wheel has its own motor and each motor has a two speed gearbox. True torque vect...

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I was thinking the exact same thing!

 By: jp884 : April 24th, 2024-03:29
Also the grumble and pops of the V8 are gone. This is a big no thank you from me.

The idea is that the average G Class doesn't get much range...

 By: patrick_y : April 24th, 2024-03:48
Because they drink so much petrol, the range isn't great - so this battery version is about the same. The big issue here is that with a petrol car, I can refill it - and there is likely a gas station somewhere not too far from the wilderness. There's not ...

Diesel versions are quite rangy

 By: jack johnson : April 24th, 2024-04:43

Sorry, totally forgot

 By: jack johnson : April 24th, 2024-12:06
about regional specifics I have had a G63 for a couple of years and have been getting around 500km out of the full tank. A diesel version would be more than 800km I think.

Bravo!

I agree, no rush.

 By: patrick_y : April 25th, 2024-02:16
No rush to get the Electric G wagon - not until it's been deemed reliable. The two speed transmission in the motor wheel hub is also bleeding new technology - I'd like to see some data on the long-term reliability there before I take the plunge on a G wag...

Maybe solar panels πŸ€”

But that only works on sunny days! What if you have a bad weather day?

 By: patrick_y : April 24th, 2024-03:48
I think we need to hire a bunch of hamsters to run on a wheel to generate some electricity for the car!

LOL!

 By: amanico : April 24th, 2024-03:50

Couldn't get any hamsters in the desert, but I am assembling an army of tortoises to tow the car very slowly to my destination!

 By: patrick_y : April 24th, 2024-03:58
I would need an army of around 10,000 of these automaton turtles to pull the car! ...

Definitely very short range!

 By: patrick_y : April 24th, 2024-03:47
Don't expect to do a lot away from civilization!

Oui!

 By: patrick_y : April 24th, 2024-03:49
With a petrol powered SUV, I can put cans of petrol in the back. But how do I put cans of "electric juice" in the back? Oh! I know, I bring a generator and cans of petrol. Voila!

Exactly. Silly!

 By: amanico : April 24th, 2024-03:50

A lot. :0)

:))))))

 By: amanico : April 25th, 2024-05:53

Have you ever seen any g wagon away from civilization?

 By: Henke : April 24th, 2024-04:18
Their natural habitat seems to be Beverley Hills parking lots. It's all 4runners, Wranglers, Broncos and Subarus on the trails... I think Mercedes hit the nail on the head for their market.

In Africa, it was all Toyota Land Cruisers.

 By: patrick_y : April 24th, 2024-04:33
I was in Africa to see "The Great Migration" of animals. And I ended up joking, "I see the great migration of Toyota Land Cruisers." There were NO G CLASS vehicles. Pictures from October 2023 Tokyo Auto Show ...

Wonderful pictures!

 By: Henke : April 24th, 2024-04:52
I'm in line for the new land cruiser myself. Good mpg so every can of gas I bring will take me further, a small enough battery not to be obstrusive when discharged but large enough to run basic camping stuff... It might be 2 years until I get one, but sti...

Good luck! That new Land Cruiser looks AWESOME!

 By: patrick_y : April 24th, 2024-05:28
Love the good MPG on the new Land Cruiser too!

With a (one) solar panel it should be possible.

 By: bimbeano : April 24th, 2024-17:12
Within a week it can be loaded to 35 % ;-)

Great.

 By: InHavenPro : April 24th, 2024-03:53
It looks great, it evidently drives great, and it will indubitably sell great. Thank you for the news Patrick. Cheers, Filip

Yes! My neighbor already called his Mercedes sales advisor.

 By: patrick_y : April 24th, 2024-04:00
The waiting list will be UBER LONG for this watch. I mean car! I mean SUV!

=)

 By: InHavenPro : April 24th, 2024-04:02
They know the market they are playing into exceedingly well. It's a forgone conclusion. Obviously, the car isn't a replacement for the petrol version, it's simply a companion trim to lure in buyers for whom the only 'obstacle' to getting one was that this...

100% 😁

 By: InHavenPro : April 24th, 2024-04:07

All kidding aside...

 By: patrick_y : April 24th, 2024-04:07
I would say, the petrol/diesel versions really do consume way too much fuel. As an AMG owner, I've realized, stopping at gas stations take time, I have to wear gloves, and it's not exactly a pleasant thing to do. So if I were to ever get an SUV, I would h...

I carry hand sanitizer for gas station pumps. It's *never* fun.

 By: Tim_M : April 25th, 2024-00:28
Yeah, if you're just going to drive around Newport Beach by day and then charge at home, why bother with the ICE? People buying these have several other cars if they really want to road trip, and they fly on any trip that takes more than three hours by ro...

I have plastic gloves for gas pump duty.

That Tesla Model 3 Performance looks like a great car. The Tesla Model 3 is actually a darn good car - if you don't pay attention to how bad the brakes are.

What is fording depth?

Like you, I like 150k more than 180k

Would Rather a Hummer EV SUV Than This

 By: Tim_M : April 24th, 2024-14:03
Neither one is necessary or anything more than a flexing exercise. So on that basis, why not get the one that's bigger, more powerful, and quicker by far? The Hummer's probably even more maneuverable given its 10-degree RWS system. The Hummer charges at 8...

Somehow I read these are hybrids and not fully EVs....

 By: Clueless_Collector : April 24th, 2024-18:04
They still have the 6 cyl engines for the G580 and G63 still their V8.
