What they did is fantastic, you should welcome their move.

I respectfully disagree with you. They didn't lower their prices to compete with Hublot, they did it to be fair to their customer and adjust the past double increase because of the hike in gold prices. Twice they increased by 10% their prices, in a short period of time.
Ap was their way long before Hublot, which is hitting on their market share. Still AP feels like the ORIGINAL thing, while hublot is trying so hard without really getting to them... Look how many Limited edition Hublot did, feels like concept is just limited editions. Weak, fashionable and feels like all fashion thing, it will melt with time... IMO.
While AP has a strong history, strong models, and even if it surfed on the LE's trend, it didn't drown in it.
About collecting, you said "I valued AP and their gold pieces because they were not affordable to everyone".... You went in for the wrong reasons. If you go on collecting watches based on that, you are a the beginning of being disappointed. Now you think you are being spit at, which is not true.
You can learn from that experience to buy what you really love, it will help you keeping your watches... as long as you don't sell, you don't loose anything, and the good part is that you will enjoy them.
My 2 cent
